The responsibilities listed below are listed at the full performance level.
Provide expertise and make recommendations on development and application of geospatial analysis processes, protocols, and solutions.
Apply advanced principles to facilitate geospatial model design and analysis, accommodate new situations, and resolve novel or obscure problems.
Use available guides, protocols, websites, and other available tools to ensure geospatial products meet national and regional standards, policies, and guidelines.
Manipulate and analyze geospatial data to support resource management decisions.
Collaborate with internal and external partners to develop technical and innovative approaches to data collection, analysis, and reporting.
Oversee data life cycle management and the organization and maintenance of multi-discipline resource information and data.
Develop data dictionaries, data models, and metadata for multi-disciplinary information and geospatial applications.
Coordinate conversion of geospatial information and remote sensing imagery into databases.
Compile natural resource, topographic, and cartographic data for creation of maps and materials, used in a variety of planning, assessment, and decision activities.
Operate complex computer systems and software packages and develop procedures to produce intricately detailed maps and graphics.
Apply geographic and cartographic principles to resolve multi-disciplinary issues in database construction and map compilation.
Maintain liaison with internal and external organizations and individuals related to Unit?s geographic information systems program.
Provide advice on the implementation, management, analysis, and use of geospatial information.
Conduct formal and informal training and provide technical assistance to software users in the development, storage, retrieval, and analysis of data and outputs.
Work independently to balance priorities, deadlines, and the availability of others to ensure customer expectations are consistently met.
Develop and implement annual program of work while remaining flexible to changing priorities and needs.
Provide leadership to the unit geospatial program by fostering and maintaining a strong and supportive team atmosphere.

Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must also possess experience and/or directly related education in the amounts listed below.
Specialized Experience Requirement:
For the GS-09 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level; OR A Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related; OR An appropriate combination of specialized experience and education (only graduate education in excess of 18 semester hours may be used to qualify applicants for this grade level). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
Examples of specialized experience are: Participated in developing data dictionaries, data models, and metadata for multi-disciplinary information and geospatial applications; Participated in the manipulation and analysis of geospatial data linking a variety of resources such as socio-economics, land, air, water, timber, recreation, wildlife, fisheries and/or special management areas; Created increasingly more complex thematic map products and presentation materials using established automated map and chart making processes; Applied basic geographic and cartographic principles to the resolution of more complicated issues in geospatial database construction and map compilation.
For the GS-11 level: Applicants must have 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent Doctoral degree (coursework directly related to position being filled); OR One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level; OR An appropriate combination of specialized experience and graduate level education (beyond what is required for a Master's degree, i.e., more than 36 semester hours leading to a Ph.D.) Professional engineering experience is defined as non-routine engineering work that required and was characterized by (1) professional knowledge of engineering; (2) professional ability to apply such knowledge to engineering problems; and (3) positive and continuing development of professional knowledge and ability.
Examples of specialized experience are: Worked with managers and resource specialists to determine type, amount, and level of information required to develop and analyze ecosystem management alternatives; Assisted with developing data dictionaries, data models, and metadata for multi-disciplinary information and geospatial applications; Applied applicable principles to facilitate geospatial model design and analysis procedures related to natural resource and relevant socio-economic data and products; Operated complex computer systems and software packages and used established procedures to produce intricately detailed maps and graphics for a variety of natural resource programs and planning documents.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).
