Duties

Help
  • Performs installation access, usage of physical access control equipment and visitor access on military installations.
  • Performs security guard duties in accordance with appropriate regulations to detect and prevent theft, damage, accident, trespass, sabotage and espionage and to enforce the security regulations of the installation.
  • Controls access of vehicles and pedestrians to installation.
  • Verifies identification through use of identification cards, badges, biometrics automated records, vehicle decals, verbal questioning, and other means.
  • Operates and performs research queries on the NCIC National Crime Information Center (NCIC/NCCIC) workstation terminal(s) in accordance with (IAW) federal and state laws.
  • Conduct periodic established foot (interior/perimeter) patrols to detect problem situations and/or conditions, to include checking and/or securing sensitives areas.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance.
  • DA Form 5019 Condition of Employment must be assigned for mandatory drug testing.
  • Must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) terminals.
  • Must meet the requirements of Individual Reliability Program, IAW AR 190-56.
  • Must be willing to work shifts as required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Must be willing to work overtime as required.
  • Must be willing to be subject to recall during periods of emergency.
  • Must be able to pass an initial assigned firearms/weapons qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
  • Must undergo an initial and periodic medical evaluation to assess emotional, mental stability and the ability to take the standard Army physical fitness/agility test and to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Must provide a complete health history and report any changes in health status that may impair ability to perform the essential job functions.
  • Must take and pass the standard Army physical fitness/agility test in order to demonstrate ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Must successfully complete security guard training.
  • Must successfully complete Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification and First Aid training as required by the installation.
  • Must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform and maintain a high standard of appearance and hygiene.
  • Must be willing wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment.
  • Must obtain and maintain a certification in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and then continue to maintain a SECRET security clearance based on a favorable National Agency Check with Inquiries/Tier-3 background investigation.
  • Must meet requirements under 18 USC 922(g)(9) (The Lautenberg Amendment); and sign the DD Form 2760 (Qualification to Possess Firearms or Ammunition).

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience which includes controlling access of vehicles, visitors and pedestrians and using automated systems to query and verify suitability for visitor entry; and experience such as work with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques. Acceptable experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-04).
