Duties

Help
  • Provide police, fire, and emergency medical dispatching services to the public by answering emergency 911 calls.
  • Identify nature of emergency and level of response.
  • Maintain accurate status of all emergency response equipment and personnel to assure prompt and accurate response.
  • Provide emergency medical dispatching (EMD) assistance to callers with medical emergencies using emergency medical dispatch system.
  • Receive 911 calls and initiates an immediate, appropriate emergency response and provides caller with life support information.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the employee to work shift work. This entails working an alternate work schedule, which requires an uncommon tour of duty to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • This position has been determined to be Mission Essential. Employee is required to work regardless of weather conditions, Terrorist Force Protection Condition (TFPCON), or installation closure.
  • This position has been determined to be a Key Position and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization. Shall not be filled by Ready Reservists to preclude position from being vacated during mobilization.
  • This position requires the employee to wear a uniform.
  • This position requires the employee to obtain and maintain a valid state of Alaska drivers license.
  • Required certifications (within one year): DoD Telecommunicator I and II, DoD Hazardous Materials Awareness, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Emergency Medical Dispatch System, Alaska Public Safety Information Network (ASPIN).
  • This position requires the employee to maintain an overall compliance score of 90% percent, or better, as reviewed by the Advanced Quality Assurance (AQUA) software.
  • This position requires the employee to attain continuing dispatch and Intrusion Detection education through in-service training.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. One year of specialized experience which includes three or more of the following 1) answer emergency 911 calls 2) dispatch appropriate emergency personnel and equipment 3) perform intervention with distraught emergency callers during high risk situations until appropriate emergency response units arrive on the scene 4) provide instruction to callers on emergency medical procedures, 5) monitor computerized dispatch, fire alarm systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal service (GS-06).
