The Research Physical Scientist will join the coastal and ocean ecosystems group in the Biospheric Science Branch in the Earth Science Division at NASA Ames Research Center. Summary

The candidate will be a recognized scientist with a successful publication record in the analysis, modeling, and interpretation of data from remote sensing, airborne, ground, and laboratory measurements. The scientist will join a new wave of Earth scientists at Ames that contribute to NASA's strategic goals.
Serves as a team member working as a physical scientist contributing to the coastal and ocean ecosystems research group.
Leads in the analysis, modeling, and interpretation of data from remote sensing, airborne, ground-based, and laboratory measurements, and publishes the results in the peer-reviewed literature.
Performs multiple functions that include: planning, design, test and evaluation, cost estimation, research project management, and quality assessment for research projects.
Conducts intensive research investigations and/or application studies directed towards discovering, disseminating, and applying new and expanded knowledge in Earth science focused on ocean and coastal ecosystems.
Serves as a principal investigator, co-principal investigator, supporting research scientist, and/or activity lead which involves research project conceptualization, proposal development and execution of Earth science projects.
Reviews, evaluates and writes results in community recognized peer-reviewed publications.
Designs, implements and reports on Earth science studies through analysis, interpretation and application of data.
Participates in teams of scientists, technologists and engineers to scope/plan novel methods for making earth science observations and measurements supporting NASA's mission conceptualization, planning, formulation and execution endeavors.
Communicates results and significance of findings to experts, discipline program managers and non-domain scientists and managers.
Serves as a technical adviser or subject matter expert working with industry, other government agencies and academia.

Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Education Requirement, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-11), which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.
To qualify for the GS-12:
One year of specialized experience is defined as experience in coastal and/or ocean ecosystems research through analysis, modeling, and interpretation of data from remote sensing, airborne, ground-based, and laboratory measurements; experience in participating in directed or competitively funded research and analysis, applied science programs or projects, or Earth science missions; experience in supporting, reviewing, evaluating and/or writing peer-reviewed publications; experience in the conceptualization, development, and writing of research proposals.

Completion of all requirements for doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in an appropriate field.
Education
In order to qualify for this position you must meet Basic Education Requirement
Applicants must have successfully completed an undergraduate or graduate degree with a major in either a) engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs or b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science, Computer Science*, Other fields of science.
Degrees in engineering technology are not considered to be qualifying for this position.
Required college majors for applicants qualifying on the basis of graduate education only: Any appropriate field of engineering, physical or computer science* or mathematics. Study must include or be supplemented by six semester hours or the equivalent in appropriate life or other natural science courses, and include or be supplemented by at least two courses which would provide knowledge of subjects appropriate to the vacancy being filled.
*Note: Curriculum must include 30 semester hours of course work in a combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science. Of the 30 semester hours, 15 must be in any combination of statistics and mathematics which includes differential and integral calculus.
