This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-13. At the GS-12 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-13. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds. Major Duties:
Perform troubleshooting and restoring remotely managed network routers and WAN acceleration equipment.
Plan for and implement new technologies to augment and enhance WAN operation in support of critical applications and business pocesses.
Conducts assessments utilizing various monitoring tools to ensure proper WAN operation, efficiency and security
Reviews directives, policies, programs, enterprise-wide functional user requirements and acquisition strategies/vehicles for program related issues to determine the impact and implications in supporting information systems.
Analyzes plans, policies, programs and directives to determine requirements, life-cycle management to determine support and replacement resource requirements.

The Selective Placement Factor for this position is: documented, detailed background and extensive knowledge base with the latest technologies dealing with Wide Area Networking (WAN) configuration, long haul inter-connectivity between sites, WAN optimization technologies, monitoring and troubleshooting efforts, capacity planning and techniques to ensure critical application performance.
Experience - Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate.

Specialized Experience for GS-12: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-11) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: documented experience performing data management, system analysis, troubleshooting and network configuration, internet and systems administration, hardware, software, a myriad of system interfaces. Experience troubleshooting, managing, and restoring connectivity on remotely managed routers in a network environment.
Specialized Experience for GS-13: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-12) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: documented experience developing and implementing technology projects, and planning and implementing new technology with Wide Area Networking (WAN), knowledge of IT concepts, principles, and practices sufficient to plan and carryout difficult and complex assignments and develop new methods, approaches, and procedures; developing or providing guidance for the solution of difficult and unprecedented problems resulting from new or modified operational management information concepts and requirements; conducting applied and supporting research for management information systems by meeting with functional specialists to determine information needs.
Such experience is typically gained in the IT field or through the performance of work where the primary concern is IT.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
