Summary

This position is located in the Department of the Chief Program Officer, Office of AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps, in Washington, DC. Duties

Help

The Lead Disaster Services Specialist facilitates the Corporation's disaster preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation programming. Serves as an on-site coordinator for the Agency's response to Federal, state and local emergency situations. The Lead Disaster Services Specialist provides day-to-day guidance to team members in the delivery of interagency disaster relief efforts. Coordinates, facilitates, and monitors the Corporation's participation in mission accomplishment. Primary duties include:

  • Works with FEMA and other external partners to identify needed disaster response and recovery activities.
  • Coordinates the deployment of AmeriCorps Disaster Response Teams and/or other Agency staff members or resources.
  • As necessary, visits field sites to facilitate and monitor activities. Resolves issues or recommends potential issue resolution(s).
  • Identifies and reports CNCS disaster recovery needs to the Deputy Director, NCCC. If the Deputy Director is not readily available, the Team Leader is authorized to escalate such information up to and including the Chief Executive Officer.
  • Facilitates communication between CNCS and FEMA headquarters, regional, and field offices to communicate mission initiatives and objectives.
  • Collaborates with External Affairs to develop strategies to foster project and mission support.
  • Conducts fact-finding research and reviews, data verification, quantitative and qualitative analysis of information in support of formulating strategic goals and program objectives. Assists in the development and formulation of short-and long-range management plans and priorities.
  • Participates in cross program collaborations and workgroups (internal and external) to ensure that NCCC is fully integrated with national service disaster relief initiatives.

Qualifications

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (paid, unpaid, or volunteer work) comparable in scope and responsibility to at least the upper-range of the NY-02 pay band, which would be at, or equivalent to, the GS-11 level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is that which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience must include: 1) Working knowledge of emergency/disaster mitigation, response and recovery practices and procedures; 2) Coordinating resources that provide support for deployments to disaster sites; and 3) Evaluating disaster related program effectiveness. Such experience must be clearly documented in the applicant's resume.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education may not be substituted for experience for this position.
