As a Physician, you will provide oversight for the development of evidence syntheses using robust and rigorous methodologies, and advancement of methods of evidence synthesis to ensure scientifically rigorous and unbiased reviews of evidence.

Your major duties and responsibilities may include:

  • Conceptualizing, planning, and executing both the intramural and extramural research agenda by providing technical assistance on research, program implementation, and policy issues related to selected clinical topics.
  • Providing oversight of planned and ongoing systematic evidence reviews related to comparative clinical effectiveness outcomes of pharmaceuticals, devices, behavioral or other complex interventions, and health care delivery models of care in partnership with public and private partners.
  • Conceptualizing, planning and executing an intramural and extramural research portfolio related to evidence synthesis or other translation methods.
  • Participating on teams as a subject matter expert on clinical and/or practice interventions and assisting with the development, execution and evaluation of dissemination and implementation projects to increase the uptake and use of effective clinical interventions and models of care.

EDUCATION: A copy of your unofficial transcripts or ECFMG results are required with your application by the closing date of this announcement. If selected, official transcripts will be required.

A. Degree: You must have a Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association, Association of American Medical Colleges, Liaison Committee on Medical Education, Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

OR

B. Degree from Foreign Medical School: You must provide a Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.

GRADUATE TRAINING: Your resume must clearly indicate this required period of training.

Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. Graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada. Descriptions of such programs are described below:

An internship program involves broadly based clinical practice in which physicians acquire experience in treating a variety of medical problems under supervision (e.g., internal medicine, surgery, general practice, obstetrics-gynecology, and pediatrics). Such programs are in hospitals or other institutions accredited for internship training by a recognized body of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

A residency program involves training in a specialized field of medicine in a hospital or an institution accredited for training in the specialty by a recognized body of the American Medical Association (AMA) or Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

A fellowship program involves advanced training (beyond residency training) in a given medical specialty in either a clinical or research setting in a hospital or an institution accredited in the United States for such training.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

For GS-14 you must have 4 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training. Your resume must clearly demonstrate this required training.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; community; student; social). If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.

Education

This position has an education requirement. You must submit a copy of your transcripts (or a list of your courses including titles, credit hours completed and grades) to document that you have met the education requirement. Unofficial transcripts will be accepted in the application package. Official transcripts will be required prior to your starting work.

Foreign Education: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. When applicable requirements are met, this position may be eligible for additional compensation through Physicians Comparability Allowance (PCA) for up to $30,000 per year.
