Summary

The incumbent serves as Director of the Office of Communications and Health Education (OCHE). The Director will also supervise the efforts of the OCHE Health Information and Public Liaison Branch and the OCHE Science Communication and Digital Outreach Branch.

Duties

Help
  • Promote public understanding of NIDCR's research programs and accomplishments and the dissemination of new knowledge gained from the research.
  • Develop and conduct a comprehensive communications program for NIDCR.
  • Collaborate and work directly with PHS, DHHS, and other Federal agencies to disseminate research knowledge. Develop and edit state-of-the-art reports for diverse audiences.
  • Monitor advances and trends in research. Develop strategies for communicating basic and clinically applicable research results.
  • Supervise the planning and implementation of nationwide mass media and other public health campaigns to support various aspects of NIDCR research programs.
  • Lead the preparation of speeches, and provide editorial advice on congressional statements, responses to congressional inquiries, and trans-agency reports and other communications.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for a Supervisory Health Communications Specialist position at the GS-15 level, you must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: designing and implementing broad marketing/outreach efforts, including print and digital products and nationwide media campaigns; responding to inquiries about research results from health care providers, researchers, the general public and the news media; supervising the planning and implementation of a nationwide mass media and other public health campaigns; advising senior leadership on health education, public information, and press relations implications (e.g. proposed management decisions, new policies and programs, scientific and political controversies, news events, etc.).

You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.
