Summary

This position is located within a National Forest. The primary purpose of this position is to perform retardant mixing, loading into aircraft, and all activities on the ramp, including aircraft movement, and safety. The incumbent maintains airtanker base, aircraft ramp, facilities, vehicles and equipment.

Duties

Airtanker Base Technician Work 100%

Operates complex airtanker equipment systems with numerous components that must be carefully synchronized or calibrated.

Performs various aviation and ground support activities, such as servicing and operating batch mixers, tanks, and related components including pumps, valves, and hoses.

Mixes, stores, inspects, tests, and delivers fire retardants to various specifications.

Assists in airtanker "Hot Loading" operations. Computes, compiles, and summarizes data for preparation of recurring and special Forestry Service reports and records.

Qualifications

You must possess the Basic Requirements identified below to be considered eligible for this position. Transcripts must be provided for qualifications based on education. Your application or resume must clearly show that you possess the appropriate experience requirements.

GS-05: (1) One year of specialized experience at the GS-04 level.

Specialized Experience is defined as: Performed work directly related to wildland fire suppression and control activities including suppression, preparedness, prevention, monitoring, and hazardous fuels reduction. And serviced and made minor repairs to airtanker equipment; Or inspected, checked and serviced accessories such as pump, water lines, tanks, reels, or pump power plant and keeps in fire readiness. -OR

Successfully completed of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in forestry, range management, agriculture, or a subject-matter field directly related to the position, or that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as forestry, agriculture, crop or plant science, range management or conservation, wildlife management, watershed management, soil science, natural resources (except marine fisheries and oceanography), outdoor recreation management, civil or forest engineering, or wildland fire science. No more than 6 semester hours in mathematics is creditable. - OR

A combination of education and experience listed above.

This position is temporary, has a Not-to-Exceed date and will be filled for up to 6 months or as a not to exceed (NTE) 1 year, however an extension of the appointment may be possible without further competition. The appointment may also end early due to lack of work or lack of funds.
