Duties

Help

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for digital investigative analysis work. Typical work assignments will include:

-Supervise a team of digital forensic analysts providing support and advisory services to Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) and Federal criminal investigators.
-Provide direct oversight in assigning and reviewing work, identifying developmental training needs, and develop ways to improve production or increase the quality of the team.
-Support criminal investigators and AUSAs by planning and performing highly complex or large-scale forensic examinations of digital, electronic and mobile device data from a variety of sources with the goal of developing forensically sound evidence.
-Advice AUSAs on digital forensics issues (collection, processing, etc.) providing expert consultation throughout investigations and prosecutions on matters relating to digital evidence or digital investigative analysis.
-Employ forensic tools and techniques to support the investigation of complex computer fraud or other electronic crimes, crack files and system passwords, detect steganography and recover deleted, fragmented and corrupted data from digital media of all types.
-Collaborate with other forensic analysts, AUSAs and criminal investigators to identify methods and procedures for recovery, preservation, and presentation of digital evidence.

  • Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.
  • You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position.
  • If selected, you will be subject to the satisfactory completion of a one year supervisory or managerial probationary period unless this requirement has been met previously.

Qualifications

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 in federal service. Qualifying experience is defined as conducting highly complex digital forensic analysis to support litigative activities utilizing specialized technical equipment software for the purpose of discovering and analyzing available, deleted or hidden information that may serve as evidence in criminal investigations; providing expert advice and consultation on related digital forensic issues; and providing leadership and training to others on digital forensic techniques, tools, and methods.
