Duties

Help

As a Public Safety Assistant (Office Automation), you will:

  • Maintain academy motor vehicle registration files and motor vehicle operator files in accordance with existing academy policy.
  • Oversee and ensure all functions of security control, access control and visitor control systems of the academy are maintained in a high state of readiness at all times.
  • Maintain accreditation of Federal and State criminal history databases. Process central violation notices issued by security guards which are returnable in the U.S. District Court and maintains associated files.
  • Receive all visitors, complaints, and telephone calls for the Department Head; ascertain nature of call or business of visitors/complaints and determines the appropriate action to be taken.
  • Serve as security liaison for law enforcement and maintains associated correspondence and files. Draft and prepare security reports, briefings, and correspondences. 

The ideal candidate will provide a variety of essential technical and procedural support duties relative to law enforcement operations, physical security, fire protection, and personal security.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • SELECTIVE SERVICE: Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for the Selective Service.
  • TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENT: Federal applicants must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade to satisfy time-in-grade requirements contained in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F.
  • You must complete a one-year probationary period (unless already completed).

Qualifications

To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the specialized experience qualifications for the grade at which you are requesting consideration.

To qualify for the GS-07 on Experience, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equal or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the following:

  • Experience with procedures, policies, and program goals of public safety operations.
  • Experience in the use of office automation applications.
  • Experience in writing security reports, briefings, and correspondences.
  • Experience with training and distributing work to security guards.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).  Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
