Summary

This position is located in the Department of Defense Office of Inspector General (DoD OIG), DoD OIG - DIG for Administrative Investigations. The DoD OIG - Administrative Investigations is responsible for the conduct and oversight of investigations into allegations of whistleblower reprisal and against senior officials within the DoD. The division also conducts reviews, surveys, and studies, when required.

Duties

Help
  • Serves as senior editor in the Department of Defense Office of Inspector General (DoD OIG), Office of the Inspector General (OIG), Deputy Inspector General for Administrative Investigations (AI).
  • The incumbent reports to the Assistant Deputy Inspector General for Administrative Investigations (ADIG-AI).
  • Provides expert reviews of assigned reports and other written materials for consistency of mechanics and expression, logical organization and development, and general readability.
  • Adjusts as required, report tone and style to be suitable for the intended audience.
  • Recommends new presentation formats to ensure that material is presented clearly and with no possibility for misunderstanding.
  • Ensure complete and cogent presentation of the subject.
  • As necessary, rewrites significant portions of reports to ensure appropriate final presentation.
  • Recommends and discusses with the author(s) editorial changes designed to enhance the clarity of the information, grammatical accuracy, and consistency of the data.
  • Ensure clarity and correctness of spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Advises clients of any changes in style or format requirements and disseminates current policy.
  • Provides recommendations to whether reports are written in a way in which findings support recommendations, support overall report conclusions, and that conclusions correspond to objectives.
  • Verify the accuracy of calculations, references, footnotes, acronyms, etc.
  • Develops and provides training to advise writers on how to recognize and correct common errors and weaknesses in writing.
  • Collects examples of current problems observed, identifies trends, and summarizes information for dissemination to all appropriate levels.
  • Works in a SharePoint environment for editorial collaboration and organization of written products; proficient in the use of MS Word and knowledge of desktop publishing software.

  • Position has been designated as Noncritical Sensitive. Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a Secret level security clearance.
  • Incumbent is required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and is subject to random drug testing for the duration of service with DoD OIG.
  • Current DoD civilian employees are not required to submit to drug testing if moving from one Testing Designated Position (TDP) to another with no break in service, unless deemed appropriate on a case-by-case basis.
  • If you have not previously completed a probationary period with the Federal government in a similar position, you will be required to serve a two-year probationary period.

Qualifications

Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Specialized Experience requirements as noted below.

Specialized Experience: You must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-12 level in the Federal service or at an equivalent level. Specialized experience is defined as: writing, reviewing, and editing material for correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation that is intended for internal and external customers; applying writing style guidelines, editorial practices, and publishing policies and procedures; recommending editorial changes, formatting, and clarity of information in accordance with the Department's policy and procedures; and proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint.

Education

Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level.
