Duties

Help
  • Provide a vision for scientific computing and the extraction and use of knowledge from data generated by and relevant to NIEHS research.
  • Coordinate scientific computing across NIH and other federal agencies/institutions. Foster new, effective technologies and procedures for scientific computing for manipulating and interpreting large and complex data.
  • Assist with the application of new methods and technologies emerging from the field of data science including ?big data?.
  • Advance the use of cloud and distributed computing approaches.
  • Ensure that there are outstanding training and educational programs around scientific computing available to NIEHS scientists.
  • Foster partnership with the CIO and other IT leaders to ensure that NIEHS IT assets are planned for and deployed to meet needs.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: In order to qualify for the Scientific Information Officer, GS-401-15, position at our agency, you must meet the following requirements:

A. I have completed the requirements for a bachelor's (or graduate) degree in a biological science, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to this position, from an accredited college or university

OR

B. I have a combination of experience and education which includes courses comparable to a major in a biological science, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry or related disciplines appropriate to this position, AND I have appropriate experience or additional education which demonstrates similarly appropriate skills or abilities needed to perform the duties of this position

You must also meet the additional qualification requirements for a Scientific Information Officer, GS-0401-15, as described in the Qualifications Section of the Vacancy Announcement.

A. I qualify for this position at the GS-15 level because I have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: developing and implementing a plan for scientific computing and science IT; science IT planning, implementation and governance; manage science IT training and educational programs; experience working with data science/big data technologies and methods for biomedical research; coordinate ongoing scientific computing activities.
