Duties

Help
  • Plans, organizes, and directs assigned activities of the Fire Protection Training flight ensuring that formal training complies with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs.
  • Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities.
  • Represents the 312 TRS Fire Protection Training flight with a variety of installation and functional area organizations.
  • Conducts classroom, laboratory or field instruction.

  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft
  • Work may be performed in-classroom (day and/or night shift) and/or outside on the fire training pad where intense safety precautions are required. (cont)...
  • (cont)...Work may require training students in live-fire situations for both crash and structural operations to include wearing full firefighter protective clothing and breathing apparatus
  • Employee must possess a valid state driver's license and thus the ability to obtain a Government Driver's License in order to operate a government vehicle for the transport of supply and material items both on- and off-base
  • Physical exam may be required annually IAW NFPA 1582. If required, the employee must pass the firefighter physical exam, an annual fit test for a breathing mask, (cont)...

  • Employee shall be DoD Firefigher certified to at least one level higher than course/block instructed. Minimum fire instructor certification requirements: DoD Fire Officer 1, (cont)...

  • Minimum of an associate degree is required (Fire Science degree preferred). This is a CCAF faculty position and the individual is required to meet and maintain academic standing in-line with CCAF accreditation requirements for the assigned programs

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions, for the GS-1712, Training Instruction Series.

BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Associate Degree (or higher) from an accredited institution that included major study in education or in a subject area related to the position to be filled.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience that demonstrates a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction, which includes Teaching or instructing in an adult education program, secondary school, college, military installation, or industrial establishment in the appropriate field(s); Supervising or administering a training program; Development or review of training/course materials, aids, devices, etc., and evaluation of training results; Work in the occupation or subject-matter field of the position to be filled that required training or instructing others on a regular basis.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position (GS-09).
OR
EDUCATION:
Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M. Education must have a major study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled. NOTE: You must provide a copy of your transcripts.

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position. NOTE: You must provide a copy of your transcripts.

For Community College of the Air Force GS-1712 positions:
All Community College of the Air Force faculty members must meet minimum educational requirements as prescribed by the accrediting body Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC), i.e. all teachers must hold at least an associate's degree for the school to meet accreditation criteria. NOTE: You must provide a copy of your transcripts.

FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-­grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Comprehensive knowledge of a wide variety of instructional development methods sufficient to develop, design and revise instructional materials.
2. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.
3. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of a small to medium sized organization.
4. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
5. Knowledge of training aids and devices used in training programs.
6. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
7. Knowledge of instructional design and materials development for assigned courses.
8. Knowledge of tests and measurement principles, techniques, and objectives.
9. Ability to analyze and solve problems both in the classroom and for outside training areas.
10. Skill in accomplishing special training studies and projects.
11. Ability to supervise and manage a subordinate workforce.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Current or Former Federal Civilian Employees (Includes current Air Force employees): You are required to submit legible copy/copies of your last or most recent SF-50, Notification of Personnel Action, (block 24 must be a "1" or "2" AND block 34 must be a"1"). Additionally, if you are applying for a higher grade (GS) and your SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you meet the one year time-in-grade requirement so you will need to provide an SF-50 which clearly demonstrates you meet the time-in-grade requirements (examples of appropriate SF-50s include Promotions, Within-grade Grade/Range Increases, and SF-50s with an effective date more than one year old)
