Help
  • Collect, process, and interpret raw data to determine the significance of the findings.
  • Clean, analyze, and manage large complex datasets.
  • Utilize the following statistical or data management software to conduct economic analyses: Excel; SAS, STATA or other statistical software; R Python, SQL or other equivalent programming languages; and Tableau or other data visualizations software.
  • Communicate economic concepts and economic analysis in an academic setting or professional forum.
  • Perform research for a complex economic study focusing on the farm and/or the food sector, as related to commodity or food markets, or on U.S. agriculture related to environmental or production issues.

  • This is an open continuous announcement and will be used to fill vacancies as openings occur.

BASIC REQUIREMENT
A. Degree: A bachelor's (or higher) degree in economics that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus;

OR

B. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
In addition to the Basic Requirement listed above, you must meet the required specialized experience or education below:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience includes: 1) collecting and analyzing economic data using automation software and statistical methods; and 2) preparing analytical reports on agricultural economic issues.

OR

EDUCATION: completion of 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree OR a master's or equivalent graduate degree in economics/agricultural economics or related discipline.

OR

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION & PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: Combinations of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. Only graduate level education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be combined with experience. For example, an applicant with 6 months of appropriate experience equivalent to GS-7 (50 percent of the experience requirement for GS-9) and 27 semester hours of appropriate graduate education (50 percent of the education requirement for GS-9, in excess of that required for GS-7) would be qualified for a GS-9 position (assuming that there is no evidence that the attended college or university requires more than 18 semester hours as equivalent to a year of graduate study).
