Summary
This position is responsible for providing a broad range of Neurology services to Veterans receiving care at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center (VAMC). Follow established guidelines, ethics, and policies and protocols of the Neurology Services, Department of Veterans Health Administration (VHA) and the profession.

The primary duties include the full spectrum of diagnosing and managing patients with Neurological diseases in both outpatient and in-patient setting. You will be consulting with Primary Care physicians and other specialists to ensure patients receive appropriate continuous care utilizing e-consult, tele-health, and face to face consultation. The Physician Specialist will join a multidisciplinary program providing services with dedicated support staff and operational space. Primary duties are to perform full general neurological examinations on established or newly consulted patients in the Neurology clinics, Inpatient Units or Emergency Department for signs or symptoms of neurologic dysfunction. Duties include, but are not limited to:
Diagnoses, treats, and manages patients with neurological diseases according to standard, usual, and acceptable methods and techniques.
Works closely with other specialists and primary care physicians to ensure that patients receive continuous quality care.
Provides consultation service related to neurology to the medical staff.
Participates in quality assurance programs and chart reviews.
Interprets EEGs.
The position includes clinical, and research duties. The approximate time assigned in each of area as of the date of this statement is listed below. This may change over time depending on the needs of the Service and the Medical Center. The time allotment is consistent with information contained in the physician mapping tool that is used to follow physician duties and productivity.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/30/2020. Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience: Board certified /Eligible - American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology preferred, not required.
Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.
Physical Requirements: A pre-placement examination will be concerned with the mental and physical ability of the applicant to satisfactorily perform the duties of the proposed assignment and will include requisite laboratory and other screening as required by Federal regulatory agencies.

Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP): Authorized
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan reimbursement program. To participate in the program, you must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy 1021 and submit your application within four months of appointment. The final award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services office.
