As a ARCHIVES TECHNICIAN, you will:

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-05. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.

  • Oversees lower-graded employees in the proper placement of new transfers and in the proper relocation of records in staging areas or on physical shelving; coordinates crews and equipment, organizes and distributes work, and conducts quality checks to ensure proper placement.
  • Reviews specific requests and determines the nature of the information desired.
  • Notes whether the information is available, unavailable, or if additional information is needed to establish the record's availability or authenticity; and, performs indexing or additional searching due to inaccurate information, transfer, movement, or destruction. Identifies missing or charged-out boxes of records; and, resolves basic relocation or removal issues.
  • Provides reference service by searching for records in various filing systems that are either cross-indexed or readily identified; and, refiles or interfiles records in various filing systems such as alphabetic, numeric, terminal digit, case file number, action date, etc.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.   • A one year probationary period may be required.
  • A one year supervisory or managerial probationary period may be required.
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation.
  • Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
  • If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so.
  • Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form i-9. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S.
  • Designated and/or Random Drug Testing may be required.
  • This position requires candidates to pass a physical abilities test designed to measure candidates' ability to perform the physical requirements of the job. The test requires carrying 30-pound boxes like those found on the job. It also requires bending, squatting, and walking to reach the boxes in addition to climbing and balancing on a pulpit ladder up to 15 feet high.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

General Experience: For the GS-04 grade level, you must have one year of general experience which includes progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
OR
2 years of education above high school.
OR
Combination of general experience and education.

Education
