Summary

One (1) Permanent Full-Time Cook Supervisor position to be filled in the Dietary Department at the Whiteriver Service Unit (WRSU) in Whiteriver, Arizona. The Incumbents will serve as Cook Supervisor over food service operations for designated shifts and will exercise supervisory responsibilities for work operations involving subordinate workers. The Incumbents will report to the Supervisor, Dietary Department.

Duties

  • Monitors the preparation, and evaluates the condition of the food being prepared at frequent intervals to ensure optimum flavor, quality, appearance and according to diet orders, menus and standardized recipes for inpatients, hospital personnel and guest meals.
  • Prepares food for cooking such as washing, peeling, chopping, and grinding for cooking. Roasts, bakes, fries, boils, and stews meats, fish, and poultry if needed.
  • Observes high personal hygiene standards and all required safe food handling practices. Performs assigned cleaning duties as scheduled. Maintains food storage areas for cleanliness and proper storage and fool labeling.
  • Perform as a supervisor over other cooks and other food service workers in the dietary department employees.
  • Exercise supervisory and managerial responsibility for planning, development organization, integration and evaluation of clinical services for dietary department.

This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children. Upon tentative selection, selectee will be requested to complete, sign, and submit the Addendum to OF-306, Child Care & Indian Child Care Worker Position form. Due to this requirement, the agency must ensure that persons hired for these positions have not been found guilty of or pleaded nolo contendere or guilty to certain crimes.

A one-year supervisory/managerial probationary period may be required upon selection/placement.

Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957. Seasonal Influenza immunization is required for civilian health care facility staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities.

Alternative Work Schedule: May be required to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays to provide continuity of patient care.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Candidates for this position will be evaluated under the Job Qualification System for Trades and Labor Occupations. Under this system, how applicants gained their skill and knowledge or the length of time they have spent in a line of work are not as important as the fact that they have the required ability or potential to do the job. In this system, the job element method is used to match what applicants can do against what the work calls for. SCREEN OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen-out element: Ability to Lead or Supervise? Those applicants who appear to possess at least this qualification requirement will be considered for further rating; those who do not, will be rated ineligible. The eligible are then rated against the remainder of the questions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
WS-06: No Specific length of experience, education or training is required. Applicants will be rated on the basis of their response to the assessment questions included in the vacancy announcement and the information contained in their resume to determine if you are best qualified. It is important that you answer these questions to the best of your ability. List all pertinent experience and training on your resume, including your part-time paid or unpaid, school, hobbies, military, etc.
Your resume must demonstrate experience equivalent to at leastthe next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Standard formal cooking techniques recognized by the American Culinary Federation. Knowledge of basic food handling principles, including food labeling, dating, proper refrigeration (safety-zone temperatures), storage, etc. Knowledge of using seasonings to enhance food flavors. Modifying diets according to recipes, quantities, and special request such as Diabetes, Low Sodium, Low fat, etc. Prioritizing duties and work objective, planning and organizing time and steps to maximize quality food outcomes. Weigh, measure, and mix ingredients according to recipes or personal judgment, using various kitchen utensils and equipment.
Physical Effort: Able to frequently lift and/or move objects weighing up to 40 lbs, unassisted and greater than 40 lbs assisted. Able to climb ladders, when required. Is subject to continuous standing, walking, frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, bending, twisting, and frequent sitting. Able to perform heavy duty cleaning, such as exhaust hood, greasy floors, ovens, etc.
Working Conditions: Regularly exposed to noise variations, hot and cold temperatures, sharp cutting blades, hot liquids, and pans, humidity, potential hazardous chemicals, slippery floors and enclosed areas.
