Summary

These positions are located in the Geospatial Technology and Applications Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. They serve as the principle technical advisers on Remote Sensing/Geographic Information Systems science research, applications, and operations. Duties

Help
  • Serve as technical point of contact and maintains liaison with Federal, State, and local governments; learning institutions; the private sector; professional organizations; and other individuals concerned with GIS, GPS, remote sensing and mapping.
  • Analyze geospatial and remote sensing data to support resource management decisions for multiple resource, jurisdictional, and organizational units or a large geographical region.
  • Provide the agency with expertise, development and training of specialized GIS workflows and information products to meet the needs of ecosystem management, forest plan implementation, resource analysis, inventory and monitoring.
  • Compile natural resource, topographic, and cartographic data for creation of thematic map products and presentation materials.
  • Utilize geographic and cartographic principles to resolve multi-disciplinary issues in geospatial database construction and map compilation.
  • Oversee data life cycle management by organizing and maintaining resource information and data to facilitate analysis across multiple disciplines.
  • Communicate in writing and verbally with diverse groups and individuals including technical experts, managers and resource staff at all levels of an agency to advise on and promote program goals and objectives.
  • Function as COR developing performance work statements, government estimates, and monitor contract performance
  • Responsible for the oversight of a wide array of geospatial services including data development, base mapping, thematic mapping, and data sharing.
  • This position will perform supervisory duties 20% or less of the time.

Qualifications

Basic Requirement for the 0401 Biological Sciences series:

A. Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR

B. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Basic Requirement for the 1301 Physical Science series:

A. Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.

OR

B. Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to the basic requirements listed above, the following additional education and/or experience is required. Transcripts must be provided for qualifications based on education. Your application or resume must clearly show that you possess the specialized experience requirements. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Specialized Experience Requirement:

For the GS-12 level: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: Developed and created maps for internal and external use that display natural resource and socio-economic data, highlighting particular analysis results, and conveying basic geospatial and remote sensing information. Analyzed the relationships between various natural and cultural resources and developed geospatial and remote sensing analysis processes, protocols and solutions in support of multi-disciplinary land and natural resource management decision making. Evaluated advances in geospatial technology for applicability to specific or novel situations. Developed new methods and procedures for the incorporation local, regional, or national geospatial program. Created and integrated data in a variety of resolutions and formats. Planned and lead geospatial projects, and integrated project and work schedules to meet unit needs.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
