Duties

Help

As a Information Technology Specialist, you will:

  • Serves as a technical expert in the development of investigative methods, applying specialized forensic knowledge in developing processes to acquire, analyze and identify digital evidence in criminal, civil, or administrative investigations involving the use of computers, network technology, and digital information in the commitment of crimes.
  • Provide computer expertise and technical support for FHFA-OIG fraud investigations by preserving, collecting, and the analysis of digital evidence.
  • Conduct computer forensic examinations that are consistent with those standards established by FHFA-OIG, the Council of the Inspectors General for Integrity & Efficiency, and the Department of Justice, as well as reflective of current trends and techniques within the law enforcement and professional communities.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized experience:For the EL-13 (GS-13), you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the EL/GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: 

  • Experience working with digital forensics principles, network operations, and protocols to plan and carry out complex assignments and develop new methods, approaches, and procedures in computer forensics.; AND
  • Experience interacting orally and in writing to provide advice and instruction to industry professionals, local, federal, and state agencies on all aspects of digital forensics.; AND
  • Experience applying laws, regulations, and investigative methods to the analysis of digital evidence.; AND
  • Experience utilizing digital and network equipment, forensic software applications, specialized forensic equipment, programming languages, and computer scripting to support investigative actions.; AND
  • Experience conceiving and identifying innovative new approaches and new concepts, guides, and methodologies to solve unprecedented problems, and then training peers to perform the same procedure.

In addition to meeting specialized experience, applicants must also show proficiency in 1) attention to detail, 2) customer service, 3) oral communication, and 4) problem solving.

In addition, certain FHFA-OIG employees are prohibited from accepting compensation from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac for a two-year period after terminating employment with FHFA-OIG. Furthermore, to avoid financial conflicts-of interest or the appearance of conflicts-of-interest, FHFA-OIG employees may need to divest or sell certain assets they, their spouse, or minor children own or control, including securities issued by Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, or the Federal Home Loan Banks. Employees who work on Federal Home Loan Bank issues may need to sell or divest financial interests with any of the Federal Home Loan Bank members, which may include stock in bank holding companies, insurance companies, and other financial services firms.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- A one year probationary period may be required.
- Must successfully complete a background investigation.
- Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency

- If you are retired from the Federal Government and are selected for this vacancy, your retirement annuity may be offset from your pay.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
