Duties

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience performing professional work related to research, collections, and exhibits in museums equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate performing duties such as the following: 1) Overseeing the acquisition and loan of artifacts, ensuring that processes are compliant with all applicable laws and regulations; 2) Utilizing a collection management system to collect and disseminate data pertaining to artifact collections in a museum; 3) Reviewing and updating an artifact processing manual on a yearly basis and instructing staff on the use of an artifact database; 4) Providing instruction of the artifact collection, the collections management database, the loan program, and various processes and procedures on an ad hoc basis; 5) Collaborating with upper management to review, maintain, and implement collections related policies and procedures related to the acquisition and data maintenance of artifacts.

Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Applicants must possess
A degree in museum work; or in an applicable subject-matter field
OR a combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in museum work or an applicable subject-matter field, plus appropriate experience or additional education
OR four years of experience that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study in museum work or an applicable subject-matter field.
