This is a public notice for Direct-Hire Authority (DHA) for Domestic Defense Industrial Base Facilities and the Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB).
Controls or eradicates a wide variety of pests some of which are not easily identified or located.
Inspects buildings and grounds such as improved and unimproved grounds, building foundations, walls, crawl space, garbage collection and disposal areas, drainage ditches, trees, lawns and shrubs for evidence of infestation.
Determines area and scope of infestation, identifies type of pests, stage of growth, extent of damage, means of eradicating, controlling or excluding.
Selects and applies best pest control material available on basis of pest identified, stage of growth, location, safety and environmental consideration.
Mixes and applies sprays, using fogging, baiting or other methods.
Keeps legible accurate records of infestations and control methods used, compiles required reports.
Operates light vehicles to complete work assignments.
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain Federal/State Certification in accordance with Army Regulation (AR) and Department of Defense (DoD) Pest Management Plan, which includes DoDI 4150.7, and DoD certification standards.
The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
This position requires possession or ability to obtain and maintain a Department of the Army operator's permit for the type of vehicle to be operated to perform the duties of the position.
This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
This position has a requirement to lift up to over 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
This position requires the incumbent to respond to emergency calls after regular working hours.
This position requires the incumbent to work in all types of weather.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Pest Controller~ without more than normal supervision. Ability to control or eradicate a wide variety of pests not commonly recognized and hard to find to exterminate, such as termites, beetles, and moths. Ability to conduct scheduled inspections of building and grounds for evidence of conditions conducive to pest harborage/reproduction. Ability to determine scope of infestation and apply appropriate measures to control or eradicate pests. Ability to determine and operate equipment needed for assignment such as hand-operated dusters, sprayers, mist machines, fog machines. Select and mix a variety of chemicals according to approved formulas. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Physical Effort: Frequently lifts materials weighing over 50 pounds and carries chemical solutions and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds for extended periods. Work is often performed in cramped, inconvenient surroundings which is tiring and uncomfortable. There is frequent bending, crawling, climbing, and moving of equipment and furniture.
Working Conditions: The work is accomplished both inside and outside. When working outside, pest control workers are often exposed to hot sun for extended periods of time and occasionally to bad weather. Outside work may be done in marsh areas or under hot and dusty conditions for extended periods. Inside work is often accomplished in structural areas with minimum ventilation and/or limited access. The workers mix substances and apply pesticides while wearing respirators, gloves, and other personal protective equipment designed to nullify the risk of exposure to toxic dust and sprays which might damage their health. Damage to health may occur if appropriate safety procedures are not followed. Discomfort may be experienced while wearing protective clothing, respirators, goggles, or face masks for extended periods of time. They may be exposed to poisonous insects, reptiles, and plants and to wild and rabid animals.
