Summary

About the Position:

This position is with the Office of the Chief Scientist (OCS), within the Office of Quality Initiatives and Training (OQIT), Defense Forensic Science Center (DFSC) in Ft. Gillem, GA. You will serve as the Research Scientist/Project Manager/Forensic Advisor responsible for applying chemical, biological, and other compatible research experience and knowledge to forensic science problems.

Duties

Help
  • Formulating and conducting systematic research investigations on new and unusual problems within forensic science.
  • Develop comprehensive research approach directed at the attainment of project objectives and establishes manpower, equipment, and funding requirements.
  • Develop new methods and techniques to advance current forensic science capabilities.
  • Presents findings at professional and scientific meetings on topics within a broad specialty.
  • Also serves as a Contracting Officer Representative (COR) and advisor on assigned areas of responsibility.

  • Field phases of work may involve travel to and extended temporary duty assignments in harsh, cold and remote locations.

0401 Biologist

Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR

Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

1301 Physical Scientist:

Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.

OR

Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

1320 Chemist:

Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.

OR

Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Experience required:

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

GS-13:To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, such as: formulating and conducting systematic research investigations on new and unusual problems within forensic science to include the understanding of the complexities and difficulties that may be encountered during examination, processing, and analysis of evidence.
