Duties

Help
  • Serves as the Entomological Sciences Division Branch Chief, Pesticide Use and Resistance Monitoring Branch.
  • Leads a team of 2-5 civilian, various military and contracted personnel.
  • Oversees daily operations to include pesticide resistance testing activities and insectary operations.
  • Incumbent is also responsible for oversight and manning of the Department of Defense (DoD) pesticide hotline.
  • Ensures organization?s plan, mission, vision and values are relayed to the team and integrates these into the team?s objectives and work plans.
  • Communicates to the team the assignments, projects, and milestones and follows through with team members on deadlines/time frames of completion to assure these are met.
  • Designs and updates arthropod resistance testing protocols as needed to support the pesticide resistance testing program.
  • Develops marketing strategies addressing pesticide resistance and hotline services.

Basic Requirement for Lead Entomologist:

Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree in entomology; or a related discipline of the biological or physical sciences that included at least 16 semester hours in entomology. This degree must be from an educational program accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Or

Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major that included course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) demonstrating knowledge of integrated pest management, pesticide laws and regulations; 2) demonstrating knowledge of experimental design and molecular approaches; 3) demonstrating knowledge of pesticide modes of action, dose-response curves and factors influencing pesticide susceptibility; 4) interpreting technical data and prepare technical reports on pesticide resistance; AND 5) working cooperatively and effectively with other employees and external stakeholders to evaluate situations or deficiencies accurately. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
