As a Public Affairs Specialist, you will serve as a staff officer in the Community Relations and Outreach Division in the Office of the Chief of Public Affairs.
Review, plan, coordinate and execute community relations and outreach events.
Develop and disseminate public affairs, community relations and outreach plans.
Plan and direct the communication of Department of the Army (DA) information programs, policies and actions using a variety of communication methods.
Coach DA spokespeople on effectively disseminating messages through media.
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
One year trial period may be required.

Basic Requirement for GS-11 position:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assist in the development of community relations and outreach plans; plan and execute community relations events; and assist in coaching leaders on effectively communicating messages. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Communications.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
Basic Requirement for GS-12 position:

This position is a term position and may be extended up to a maximum of eight years.
