As a General Engineer, you will provide technical advice and support, conduct independent assessments and make recommendations to improve DoD programs and operations.
Provides engineering inspections and evaluations in support of various DoD OIG projects.
Assists in designing and conducting technical inspections and evaluations that are independent and objective in highly technical areas.
Participates in and/or leads investigations, audits, and evaluations.
Collects and compiles data for completing analysis, tabulations, charts and graphs.
Develops proposed findings and recommendations from inspections and evaluations.
Provides DoD OIG and employees with technical and professional assistance on engineering matters.
Provides guidance on major weapons production engineering, system logistics and modification support, commodities and services, construction and architect engineer procurement and procurements by foreign governments.
Prepares and presents reports for investigations, audits, and evaluations in writing and orally.
Reviews systems and acquisition programs at various life cycle stages from technology development through production and deployment.
Researches new government and industry engineering developments.
Apply multiple disciplines of engineering to assessments of, but not limited to, DoD systems and programs in stages of development, procurement, modification, sustainment, construction, and design.
Provide recommendations to improve of DoD programs and operations where engineering techniques and methods are used

Position has been designated as Special Sensitive. Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a Top Secret with Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/CSI) security clearance.
Incumbent is required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment and is subject to random drug testing for the duration of service with DoD OIG.
Current DoD civilian employees are not required to submit to drug testing if moving from one Testing Designated Position (TDP) to another with no break in service, unless deemed appropriate on a case-by-case basis.

Qualifications
Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Basic AND Minimum Qualification requirements as noted below.
Basic Requirement: A bachelor's or higher degree in professional engineering, the curriculum for which was in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum.
OR
A degree in professional engineering, the curriculum for which was in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) A degree for which the curriculum included differential and integral calculus and courses in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials; (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials; and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
OR
A combination of relevant professional engineering education and experience as evidenced by having successfully completed at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the specified courses as listed above; or (2) A combination of relevant professional engineering education and experience as evidenced by having successfully completed a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field (e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology), PLUS at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance.
AND
Specialized Experience: You must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience at the GS-12 or equivalent level. Specialized experience is defined as: supporting, designing and conducting independent technical assessments involving multiple disciplines of engineering and assisting and/or leading technical assessments in various areas of engineering in audits, evaluations and investigations; collecting, assembling, compiling and analyzing data for presenting written and oral reports; and providing guidance on major weapons production engineering, system logistics services, system modification commodities and services, construction, and architect-engineer procurement by, from, or for foreign governments.
