Duties

Help
  • Assist in the maintenance of interpretive displays and the management of the natural and cultural resources in the visitor center and on project grounds.
  • Explain common park rules and regulations.
  • Advise visitors concerning pier/water safety, and proper and authorized use of recreational facilities.
  • Obtain and compile vessel schedule information and disseminate to visitors.
  • Provides routine visitor assistance such as: answering visitor's questions relating to the recreational facility and vessel traffic; providing instructions and information to the public.
  • Conduct tours and educate others during outreach efforts.
  • Assist in the development of educational programming.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. For the GS-04: General and/or Specialized Experience: Six months of general experience which includes administrative, professional, technical, investigative, or other responsible work as qualifying as long as the experience provided a familiarity with natural or cultural history; recreational use of public lands and facilities; interpersonal relations skills in dealing with the general public; AND six months of specialized experience which includes customer service.
OR
Education: Two years of education above the high school level with twelve semester hours of related course work in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 60. Add the two percentages.
