Summary
This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Health Service Corps, Pearsall, Texas, San Diego, California, and Tacoma, Washington.
Using clinical skills in oral surgery including surgical extractions of erupted teeth, administering of anesthesia, monitoring vital signs, alveoloplasty, removal of impacted teeth, biopsies, and soft tissue surgery.
Examining patients, utilizes diagnostic equipment as appropriate, interpreting results for diagnosis.
Establishing priority of care and performing necessary treatment based upon established diagnoses including follow-up care as indicated.
Providing general dentistry services to a detainee population including: preventive modalities and patient oral health literacy education; pre-treatment health assessment with pertinent case history; with an emphasis on oral surgery.

Qualifications
Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Basic AND Minimum Qualification requirements as noted below.
Basic Requirement: You must meet one of the items listed below (A, B, C, and D):
A. Successfully completed a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) and the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. AND
B. Successfully passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
C. You must have one or more full years of experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing professional dentistry work for GS-12 level and above assignments. Qualifying experience involves the evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area. Examples of dentistry experience may include the removal of decay; filling cavities; straightening, extracting, and repairing teeth; treating gum diseases; performing corrective surgery; making measurements/models for dentures to replace missing teeth, administering anesthetics, writing prescriptions; and performing other requirements of the position.

D. Be able to distinguish shades of color.

Specialized Experience: GS-14: Applicant must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-13 level in the Federal service that included experience such as:
Performing oral surgery of various types;
Working with the infection control process; and
Providing general dentistry services.
