Duties

Help

As a Biologist, you will:

  • Perform non-research biological science work or biological science support work in various scientific and public health areas associated with numerous biological agents.
  • Ensure proper collection of data and conducts experiments and studies, making adjustments in methods and procedures as appropriate during the course of the studies or experiments.
  • Calibrate and operates laboratory instruments that are necessary to perform specialized tests, analysis and other standard procedures in conducting experiments and studies.
  • Compare results with those obtained in previous experiments and/or identify unusual or unexpected results and their probable causes.
  • Perform other duties assigned.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
Applicant must have a degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
Have a combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Minimum Qualifications for GS-07:
Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience in assisting with conducting scientific studies and tests for microorganisms causing infectious diseases.
OR
Have at least one year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement.
OR
Have a combination of specialized experience and graduate level education that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.

Minimum Qualifications for GS-09:
Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience in a laboratory relating to infectious diseases, conducting scientific studies and performing tests for the detection of infectious microorganisms.
OR
Have completed 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a masters degree or masters or equivalent graduate degree that is directly related to the duties of the position.
OR
Have a combination of specialized experience and graduate level education that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.
