Participate in routine information security assignments, and provide information and assistance on information security programs to a Region or Program Office;
Conduct vulnerability assessments of existing network and system configurations to identify threats, risk and mitigation needs;
Prepare and update information for training and awareness programs related to IT security programs; and
Promoting awareness of security issues among OIG workforce to reduce the risks of cyber security incidents.
Position has portable work and selectee may be eligible to telework.
The incumbent must obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance.
This position is designated as High Risk and requires a background investigation. Unless an appropriate background investigation is already on record with the Office of Personnel Management, you must undergo a background investigation.
Qualifications
You do not need a degree to qualify for this position.
We are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:
To qualify for the GS-09 level, you need to have at least one year of full time experience equivalent to the GS-07 level defined as: Experience that demonstrate accomplishment of information technology and network security operations principles and tools, utilizing cyber tools and devices to detect unauthorized activities on the network and applying common defensive cyber methods and techniques (e.g. host interrogation and logs collection, hard drive imaging, data analysis). IT project assignments demonstrating a range of knowledge of computer requirements and techniques. For example, assignments would show, on the basis of general criteria provided, experience in developing project schedules, work in a matrix team structure, and coordinating with others outside the organizational unit in development of project controls; and adherence to established guidelines and policies
-OR-
master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in an academic discipline related to this position. Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate.
GS-5 through GS-15 (or equivalent): For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. The employing agency is responsible for identifying the specific level of proficiency required for each competency at each grade level based on the requirements of the position being filled.

Knowledge of IT security protocols, policies, procedures and methods;
Ability to implement and/or coordinate activities for the protection and restoration of IT systems services and capabilities;
Skill in providing guidance for the implementation of IT security policies in the development and operation of network systems;
Ability to develop recommendations on information systems security protocols impacting a Region or Program Office’s IT policies or programs;
Ability to prepare and update information on IT security training and awareness programs;
Skill in written and oral communication to participate on inter-agency workgroups or committees involving systems administration issues or changes, and to assist in preparing systems documentation, and reports;
Ability to manage contracts to assure contractors perform the technical and management requirements of IT contracts.
