Duties

Help

As an Archives Technician, you will:

  • Provide reference service by searching for records in various filing systems that are either cross-indexed or readily identified; and, refile or interfile records in various filing systems such as alphabetic, numeric, terminal digit, case file number, action date, etc.
  • Complete forms controlling new transfers and annotate reports generated by the Archives and Records Centers Information System (ARCIS) in accordance with established procedures and verify restrictions imposed upon the use of the records.
  • Support higher- graded employees by reviewing documentation associated with newly transferred records, ensuring accuracy, completion, and conformance to prescribed standards.
  • Review specific requests and determine the nature of the information desired. Note whether the information is available, unavailable, or if additional information is needed to establish the record's availability or authenticity; and, perform indexing or additional searching due to inaccurate information, transfer, movement, or destruction.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.

You must have one year of general experience which includes progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.

OR
You may substitute education for general or specialized experience as follows:
2 years of education above high school.

OR
You may qualify with a combination of general experience and education.

  • A significant percentage of the work is performed within a government vehicle (either a delivery van or small truck). Some of the work is performed in an office setting, with the remainder of the time spent on loading docks or in records storage areas where physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, climbing 15' pulpit ladders, and lifting boxes of records weighing 30-50 lbs. is required. The work requires common physical abilities.
