Duties

Help

The major duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Manages the consolidated inventory program, the drug accountability program and controlled substances program for the Outpatient Pharmacy.
  • Develops performance standards that are realistic, challenging and support the organizational mission, vision, and goals.
  • Establishes work schedules and allocates staff as needed to provide adequate coverage.
  • Assesses workload shifts throughout the day, identifying backlogs and makes staffing adjustments as needed to meet organizational goals.
  • Develops and establishes policies and procedures defining operational requirements.
  • Ensures assigned administrative projects and reports are submitted in a timely fashion.
  • Effectively utilizes varies computer systems as well as other automated pharmacy equipment and computer software systems.
  • Assists in assuring that the Outpatient Pharmacy program is compliant with all regulatory and accrediting body requirements.
  • Functions as a Program Manager to the Outpatient Pharmacy regarding planning, directing, controlling, and coordinating comprehensive distributive outpatient pharmacy services to the Medical Center and the Community Based Outpatient Clinics.
  • Maintains good workflow patterns to keep outpatient prescription waiting time to less than 30 minutes while ensuring accurate dispensing and record keeping.
  • Effectively organizes workload, directs outpatient activities, plans short and long range objectives/goals, solves problems, and achieves established goals within budget and staffing constraints.
  • Promotes a patient-focused, team-based multi-disciplinary model of pharmaceutical care to promote drug prescribing, medication monitoring and drug laboratory review that assures positive outcomes from medication use.
  • Participates in the provision of pharmaceutical care support services as required including drug distribution.
Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, some evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/02/2019.
Basic Requirements:

United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

Education: Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited College or School of Pharmacy with a baccalaureate degree in pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) and/or a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree.

Licensure: Full, current and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia.

English Language Proficiency: Pharmacists must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d).

Grade Determinations: In order to qualify for the GS-0660-13 Clinical Pharmacy Specialist one must have one year of experience equivalent to the GS-0660-12. To be creditable, the experience must have demonstrated the use of knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with professional pharmacy practices. Examples of these KSAs are: Knowledge of professional pharmacy practice. Ability to communicate orally and in writing to both patients and health care staff. Knowledge of laws, regulations, and accreditation standards related to the distribution and control of scheduled and non-scheduled drugs and pharmacy security. Skill in monitoring and assessing the outcome of drug therapies, including physical assessment and interpretation of laboratory and other diagnostic parameters.
