The position is located within the Department of Program Services (DPS), Probation and Pretrial Services Office (PPSO) Information Technology (IT) Support Branch in the National Program Development Division. The chief of the IT Support Branch will report to the National Program Development Division Chief in the Probation and Pretrial Services Office and is responsible for the supervision of the IT Support Branch staff. The branch chief will be responsible for ensuring IT systems developed or maintained by the AO meet the business needs of the probation and pretrial services system. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  1. Providing technical and administrative guidance, including coaching and mentoring to IT Business Support Branch staff.
  2. Ensuring IT systems developed or maintained by the AO meet the business needs of the probation and pretrial services system.
  3. Providing primary oversight of the business requirements for information technology programs related to operation of the probation and pretrial services system.
  4. Supervising staff responsible for identifying, evaluating and prioritizing business needs that stem from statutory and judicial conference policy and AO regulatory provisions related to probation and pretrial services.
  5. Examining and evaluating suggestions from customers regarding development or support of applications related to operation of probation and pretrial services.
  6. Providing input into accurate and detailed cost/benefit analyses to evaluate if technology solutions consider opportunity costs and appropriate non-monetary factors.
  7. Monitoring and reporting on the progress of development and implementation of technology projects, coordinating with PPSO subject matter experts and technical staff in the Case Management Systems Office (CMSO) and the Department of Technology Services (DTS) on assigned tasks related to technology projects.
  8. Assisting internal and external customers maximize information technology and probation and pretrial services resources.
  9. Assisting customers identify IT needs and assisting with providing optimal solutions.
  10. Working with multidisciplinary teams in support of customers' needs and implementation of IT and probation and pretrial services projects/systems.
  11. Serving as the authority on IT business needs related to probation and pretrial services to CMSO, DTS, and other AO offices.
  12. Facilitating coordination between staff in CMSO, PPSO, and DTS on the status of information technology projects, recommend improvements in processes and resources and monitor improvement progression, to ensure that final products meet business requirement.
  13. Communicating business strategy and vision of probation and pretrial services IT products to customers and stakeholders.

  4. All new AO employees must identify a financial institution for direct deposit of pay before appointment.
  5. You will be required to serve a trial period if selected for a first-time appointment to the Federal government, transferring from another Federal agency, or serving as a first-time supervisor. Failure to successfully complete the trial period may result in termination of employment.
  6. If appointed to a temporary position, management may have the discretion of converting the position to permanent depending upon funding and staffing allocation.
  7. Relocation expenses may be provided, but only if authorized by the Director of the AO.

Qualifications

Applicants must have demonstrated experience as listed below. This requirement is according to the AO Classification, Compensation, and Recruitment Systems which include interpretive guidance and reference to the OPM Operating Manual for Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions.

Specialized Experience: Applicants must have at least one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience which is in or directly related to the line of work of this position. Specialized experience is demonstrated experience ensuring IT systems are developed and maintained to meet the need of the primary user group.

Education

The basic qualifications can be met in one of three ways:

  1. Degree in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
  2. Combination of education and experience that provides the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
  3. Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrates that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
