VA North Texas Health Care System is actively recruiting for a full-time Ophthalmologist for the Dallas VA Eye Clinic. This position is for a comprehensive ophthalmologist who is board certified in ophthalmology, equivalent certification, or board eligible with expectation of certification in the near future. This is a medical ophthalmology position with opportunity for limited resident clinic and/or OR staffing.

We have an active affiliation with UT Southwestern Medical Center, and a UT faculty appointment is anticipated for the accepted candidate. Faculty rank will be dependent upon academic credentials and experience. To meet the qualifications of this position, applicants should have experience in resident teaching and be currently practicing clinical and surgical ophthalmology.

VA North Texas Health Care System is an integrated health care system serving veteran patients in 38 counties in Texas and Oklahoma. In addition to a wide variety of acute care and inpatient services, VANTHCS provides over one million outpatient visits yearly at Dallas, Fort Worth and our other locations.

Qualifications must include U.S. citizenship and an active medical license to practice in any state, territory or commonwealth of the U.S. or in the District of Columbia.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or other full-time (shift varies). Nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call may be required depending upon the needs of the service.

Education and length of practice will be considered through a formal pay-setting process in determining the final compensable salary (Base Pay + Market Pay).

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/26/2019.
Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience: To meet the qualifications of this position, applicants should have clinical and surgical ophthalmology experience,

Physical Requirements: Heavy Lifting (45 lbs and over); Heavy Carrying (45 lbs and over); Straight Pulling (up to 1 hour); Pushing (1 - 2 hours); Reaching above shoulder; Use of fingers; Both hands required; Walking (up to 6 hours); Standing (up to 8 hours); Crawling (up to 1 hour); Kneeling (up to 1 hour); Repeated bending (up to 2 hours); Both legs required; Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; Near vision correctable at 13" to 16", to Jaeger 1 to 4; Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other; Hearing (aid permitted), Sound mental and emotional stability required.
