Summary

The James A. Haley Hospital (JAH)is recruiting for several Fulltime Emergency Physicians that is well versed in Emergency Medicine (Board Certified in Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine or Family Medicine preferred) to provide Direct and Indirect critical care in Tampa VA Hospital . The positions are assigned to the James A. Haley VA Hospital under Ambulatory Care Service. The JAH is affiliated with health care programs at local colleges/universities.

Duties

Help

Emergency Medicine Physician duties consist of but are not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for providing primary/critical care for veterans with diverse medical conditions.
  • This physician is expected to have expertise in Emergency and Internal Medicine.
  • Assure the most effective delivery of care in general internal medicine, while meeting and exceeding compliance standards; consultation, evaluation and treatment to manage various conditions, illnesses, and injuries; request consults, and make recommendations for treatment and/or medication.
  • Oversees the administration of medications to patients for whom therapy is indicated.
  • Completes medical records in accordance with Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of the Medical Staff.
  • Coordinate admissions to the hospital and communicate with attending and residents in a professional manner.
  • Responsible for maintaining ACLS and airway management certification as well as competency with basic procedures such as central line placement, joint aspirations and injections, paracentesis.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/31/2019.
Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Physical requirements outlined below.
Preferred Experience: Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine or Primary Care experience.

Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.

Physical Requirements: The Physical requirements of this position include the following tasks which may be performed intermittently: lifting of up to 10 lbs., sitting (4 hours), standing (2 hours), walking (2 hours), bending/stooping (1 hour), twisting (1/2 hour), simple grasping (4 hours), fine manipulation (6 hours), reaching above the shoulder (1/2 hour), and operating machinery (1/2 hour).

Annual leave shall accrue for full-time physicians at the rate of 26 days per leave year (1 day per pay period).
