Summary

You will serve as a Chief Protocol Officer in the U.S. Fifth Fleet of COMMANDER, US NAVAL FORCES CENTRAL COM.

Relocation and recruitment incentives up to 25% may be authorized. The current workweek is Sunday through Thursday. Employees hired from continental U.S. will receive Sunday Premium Pay (computed at 25% of basic hourly rate, eight hours per week).

Duties

Help
  • You will advise staff on military protocol matters (e.g., proper ceremonial forms, honors, courtesies, etiquettes).
  • You will coordinate all aspects of official travel plans to include itineraries, agendas, ground and air transportation requirements, lodging escort to ensure protocol functions are followed.
  • You will establish working relationships with protocol professionals to conduct official business with military, civilian or foreign nationals representing visiting dignitaries.
  • You will research cultural, religious or other backgrounds of distinguished visitors to determine proper protocol for ceremonies or receptions.

  • You will be subject to completion of a 1 year probationary period for assignment to supervisory position.
  • Pay retention will be extended to eligible Department of Defense (DOD) employee(s) who apply through a formal recruitment program and are selected for a position at an overseas location.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Manage protocol activities (e.g., diplomatic formality, precedence, customs, etiquette) for VIP visits, international special events, or ceremonies; 2) Coordinate a legal and ethical review of official representation fund (ORF) request, plans, and distinguished visitor (DV) visit plans to examine adherence to policies and guidelines; 3) Perform Protocol duties for distinguished visitors (DV's) (e.g., military services, congress members, senate members, distinguished civilian and foreign equivalents). and 4) Coordinate directly with transient billeting staff, Flag VIP offices, and other protocol staff to meet distinguished visitor (DV) lodging requirements.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

This is a Key/Emergency-Essential position. In the event of a crisis situation of war, the incumbent must continue to perform assigned duties to support mission requirements until relieved by proper authority. In addition, this position requires Anthrax vaccinations. The Anthrax vaccination is a series of 6 shots occurring at 0, 2 and 4 weeks; then at 6, 12 and 18 months, followed by an annual booster as long as you remain in the position. We strongly recommend that you begin the Anthrax series before arriving in Bahrain and provide a shot card or other medical verification upon arrival. If this is not possible, you will be required to report to the Branch Health Clinic to receive these mandatory vaccinations within 15 days of arrival. The Branch Health Clinic will also provide subsequent Anthrax vaccinations (to complete the series) as well as annual boosters. You may be exempted from Anthrax requirements if you provide acceptable medical documentation which provides medical justification for exemption. Dependent entry approval from Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command is required for all accompanied tours prior to extending the final job offer and prior to issuing Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders. Commute area is defined as the geographic area surrounding the duty location in which people can reasonably be expected to travel back and forth daily.
