As a Aircraft Survival Flight Equipment Repairer, WG-4818-10, you will ensure all aircrew flight equipment meets strict airworthiness criteria and that it will sustain combat operations/readiness by inspecting, testing, calibrating, certifying, diagnostic evaluating, troubleshooting, repairing/replacing, assembling and disassembling all Aircrew Flight Equipment, aircrew chemical/biological defense equipment, and aircraft ejection/non-ejection systems. Conduct formal academic classroom and technical instruction for all pilots, aircrew, passengers (aircraft maintenance personnel, dignitaries, civilian search and rescue agencies, etc.) on: Global Survival, Combat Search and Rescue Training; Water Survival Training; High Risk Isolation (HRI); Ejection/Non-ejection Seat Egress Training; Emergency Parachute Procedural Descent Training, utilizing a state of the art virtual reality trainer; Aircrew Chemical Defense Equipment, utilizing the Aircrew Eye Respiratory Protection System (AERPS), which is an aircraft-integrated, self-contained oxygen and filtration system with aircraft-integrated electronics, communications and oxygen capabilities; Aircrew Chemical/Biological Control Area Decontamination procedures; and Aircrew Chemical Defense task qualification training. Utilize, maintain, and update multiple computer main frame programs/data bases to analyze, troubleshoot, schedule, and maintain inspection and accountability reports/documentation on all aircrew/aircraft life support and aircrew chemical-biological defense equipment. Utilize Equipment and Financial Processing Systems. Order Technical Orders (T.O.'s), receive/update T.O. changes, files and distributes T.O.'s, perform inventories and checks, order compliance and modification items, perform Interim Time Compliance Technical Order (ITCTO), Operational and Safety Supplement changes to all affected equipment, perform T.O. Familiarization, and record and document appropriate forms. Inventory and monitor Precision Maintenance Equipment Laboratory (PMEL) equipment. Perform other duties as assigned.

This is a Dual Status Excepted Service Technician position in the Pennsylvania Air National Guard.

Category 4: Qualified current members of the Pennsylvania National Guard. (Army and/or Air)

INDEFINITE: Currently employed permanent technicians MAY BE able to retain their permanent status and based on the current Unit Manning Document (UMD) and projected resourcing this will allow the applicant to occupy this position as a Permanent Promotion or Reassignment. If there are projected changes in the funding resourcing of the advertised position individuals will be placed on a Temporary action such as Temporary Promotion or Temporary Reassignment. These actions may result in the employee having to return to their prior Permanent Position when changes to the manning occur. Indefinite employment status pertains to applicant nominated, who are not a currently employed permanent technician. Indefinite appointments may acquire permanent status depending upon future force structure requirements; indefinite appointments do not serve a trial period. Indefinite appointments may be separated when their services are no longer needed or when funding is no longer available via a 30-day termination notice.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates the applicants knowledge of materials and equipment used in the line of work (helmets, torso harness assemblies, parachutes, survival equipment). Ability to understand written instructions and to use reference materials and manuals.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Application must indicate 18 months of experience or trainingwhich has demonstrated knowledge of aviation life support equipment. Experience reading and interpreting military manuals. Experience in supply procedures and property accountability. Experience collecting information and presenting it to various sized groups. Experience in planning a functional shop maintenance program is essential.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND COMPETENCIES: Applicants who meet the eligibility requirements will be further evaluated by the nominating supervisor based on the following competencies considered essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.

- Knowledge and understanding of all aircrew flight equipment and chemical/biological defense equipment utilized by the units aircrew to ensure aircrew flight equipment/ components meet airworthiness criteria, operate within specified tolerances and in the proper sequence, and are mission ready to support the requirements of day-to-day operation as well as sustained critical combat operations.

- Ability to inspect, test, calibrate, certify, evaluate, troubleshoot, disassemble, repair, overhaul, assemble, replace, as necessary, and issue life support parts and equipment.

- Ability to install, remove, and inspect all aircrew flight equipment on the unit aircraft.

- Ability to utilize a variety of complex, state of the art diagnostic testers/systems/specialty tools to test, troubleshoot, and repair all aircrew flight equipment utilized by the unit.

- Ability to perform precision soldering on flexible circuit boards to repair/replace defective parts.

- Ability and certification to plan, organize, develop, direct, implement, conduct, and evaluate formal academic classroom and technical instruction on a wide variety of life support topics to provide initial and recurring training for all aircrew and passengers.

- Knowledge of and ability to utilize multiple computer main frame programs/data bases.

- Knowledge of materials handling, inventorying, and supply procedures to store and maintain adequate supplies of aircrew flight function parts and equipment.

- Knowledge of and certification in handling, shipping, storing, and ordering multiple hazardous materials to include munitions/ammunition assets.

QUALITY OF EXPERIENCE: Length of time is not of itself qualifying. Candidates' experience should be evaluated on the basis of duties performed rather than strictly on the rank of the individual; however, established compatibility criteria/assignments must be followed. The applicant's record of experience, training, and education must show possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to fully perform the duties of the position to be filled.
