About the Position: Fort Campbell is home to the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). The 101st is unique within the U.S. Military because of its rapid deployment/quick strike mission. It is common for the families of our students to be disrupted with no advance notice for long periods of time. We provide a broad range of guidance services dealing with both the educational and emotional consequences of such disruptions.

Duties

Help
  • As an Instructional Systems Specialist (Assistive Technology), you will be responsible for the following:
  • Communicate with government officials and the education community to resolve assistive technology issues.
  • Evaluate staff development programs/models relating to assistive technology at the school and district levels.
  • Provide leadership in designing/implementing special education assistive technology services.
  • Infuse current technology/multi-media strategies into education program instructional practices for student's diverse needs.
  • Advise on addressing the identified assistive technology needs for special education services.
  • Implement staff development programs/models relating to assistive technology at district and school levels.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Minimum Education Requirement: A Master's degree in the field of Special Education. A Master's or Doctoral degree in Speech Language Pathology, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy is also acceptable. The course work must have been completed at or accepted by a regionally accredited U.S. college or university.
The undergraduate/graduate course work must have included study in at least three of the following six areas:

  1. Learning theory, psychology of learning, educational psychology: Study of learning theories as they relate to the systematic design, development, and validation of instructional material.
  2. Instructional design practices: Study of the principles and techniques used in designing training programs, developing design strategy and models, and applying design methods to the improvement of instructional effectiveness.
  3. Educational evaluation: Study of the techniques for evaluating the effectiveness of instructional/educational programs, including developing written and performance tests and survey instruments, and determining reliability and validity of evaluation instruments.
  4. Instructional product development: Study of the techniques appropriate for developing training materials, including identifying learner characteristics, specifying objectives, applying training strategy, validating training materials, and evaluating training.
  5. Computers in education: Study of the application of computers in education.
  6. Technology in education: Study of the use of technology for the enhancement of student academic and functional performance
AND

Specialized Experience Requirement (5 years): Specialized experience is experience gained in teaching, educational research, development of educational materials and aids, educational testing, educational administration, or comparable activities in an elementary and/or secondary school, which has clearly demonstrated success in the application of principles, methods, and techniques of education, and familiarity with current developments in PreK-12th grade education and training. Experience must have been in special education. The ISS (Assistive Technology) position requires a minimum of 2 years of experience directly related to assistive technology.

Professional Licensure/Certification Requirement: Applicants must be currently certified or certifiable under the current DoDEA standards as a Teacher, Severely Learning Impaired/Multiple Disabilities (categories 0416, 0417 or 0418); Teacher, Physically Impaired (category 0419); Teacher, Mildly to Moderately Learning Impaired (categories 0420, 0421 or 0422); Teacher, Moderately to Severely Learning Impaired (categories 0423, 0424 or 0425); Teacher, Emotionally Impaired (categories 0426, 0427 or 0428); Teacher, Preschool Children with Disabilities (category 0429); Teacher, Hearing Impaired (category 0470); Teacher, Visually Impaired (category 0471); or Teacher, Speech/Language Pathology (category 0472). A second certification is required.

Education

Foreign Degrees and Course Work from Non-accredited Institutions. Credits or degrees earned from a foreign college or university must be evaluated prior to acceptance. Three evaluation procedures are acceptable:

  • the course work may be evaluated and interpreted by the International Education Research Foundation, Inc., Credential Evaluation Service, Post Office Box 3665, Culver City, CA 90231-3665 or www.ierf.org/ or 310-258-945
  • the foreign institution that awarded the degree is on a list endorsed by a regionally accredited university or on a list endorsed by a state department of education for the purpose of teacher certification in that state (this procedure will require an English translation of the transcript and a copy of the document awarding the degree, together with an authenticated list produced by an American university or a state department of education); and
  • the work may be evaluated by the graduate division of a regionally accredited university and declared the equivalent of similar undergraduate or graduate work in a U.S. institution.
