Duties

Help
  • You will perform developmental duties as assigned.
  • At the full performance level you will perform the duties below:
  • You will use automated software to create representative sketches to reflect final design specifications
  • You will digitize patterns, prepare graded nests and pattern layouts
  • You will utilize a computerized pattern processing system
  • You will grade, pick, and cut patterns
  • You will utilize conventional and specialized construction procedures and industrial sewing equipment to fabricate experimental prototypes
  • You will be responsible for the design and development of original, experimental, and graded master pattern sets.
  • You will review design objectives, developing original conceptions and sketches

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate at least one full year of specialized experience at the or equivalent to the next lowest grade (GS-09) or pay band in the Federal Service, which has equipped me with the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position including experience assisting in the design and development of highly tailored garments or specialized occupational clothing for a particular functional or occupational purpose which demonstrated knowledge of layout and fabrication methods and involving primarily pattern making or grading accomplishing duties such as: 1) Performing clothing design assignments including grading, picking, and/or cutting patterns; 2) Assisting in the development of master patterns for the fabrication of a variety of garment types utilizing standard stitch methods; 3) Utilizing a computerized pattern processing system to digitize patterns and pattern layouts; 4) Utilizing apparel software; 5) Operating a computer assisted pattern plotter and automated pattern/fabric cutting system.

In addtion to meeting the specialized expereince you must meet the Basic Requirement for the Clothing Designer series in the federal service.
Basic Requirement for Clothing Designer:
You must possess an Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- textile technology, tailoring, clothing design, clothing production, anthropometry, anatomy, or physiology.
OR Possess experience in the design and development of highly tailored outer garments or specialized occupational clothing such as aviators' and paratroopers' clothing, submarine escape suits, coveralls, field jackets, helmets, footgear, or other clothing for a particular functional or occupational purpose. Experience must have demonstrated knowledge of layout and fabrication methods. Experience must have involved primarily pattern making or grading.

Education

You may qualify using education to substitute for the specialized experience if you possess a Masters degree or equivalent degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.

If you have a combination of specialized experience and graduate education.
