Duties

Help
  • As an Operations Watch Officer for US Army Africa/SETAF, you will:
  • Serve in the Current Operations and Intelligence Center (COIC), to plan for and execute assigned missions, exercises, contingencies and operations.
  • Provide situational awareness to the COIC and USARAF staff and monitors current operations in Africa (i.e., operations, exercises, theater security cooperation mission, and emergency incidents) involving USARAF and supported Army organizations.
  • Synchronize critical information requirements, incident, situation, travel reports, operation, all source intelligence summaries, personnel, resource status reports, planned courses of action, briefs, weather forecasts, and other data as required.
  • Help manage, process, and report USARAF theater entry issues and tracks all US Army personnel traveling to the USAFRICOM AOR.
  • Serve as a single point of contact (POC) for incoming and outgoing Requests for Information (RFIs).
  • As team member, joins with the COIC team to connect higher headquarters with subordinate commands for immediate and planned coordination.
  • Provide direct mission support for daily execution of Army Service Component Command responses to crisis, emerging contingencies, foreign consequence management, counter-terrorism, and personnel recovery operations throughout the USAFRICOM (AOR).
  • Assist and advise the Chief of Operations (CHOPS) in the execution of all operational matters and procedures. Incumbent must remain ready and trained to assume the additional responsibilities required in response to contingencies and crisis.

  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP).
  • This position is part of the command emergency relocation group for continuity of operations (COOP) and must maintain readiness, with our without warning, to move to and work from an alternate location within EUCOM/USAREUR theater of operations.
  • This position is designated Mission Essential.
  • This position require a Secret security clearance.
  • Temporary Duty (TDY) travel is 5%.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized experience is defined as: performing work involving operations planning and executing military operations, exercises, theater security cooperation events, and contingencies; monitoring ongoing and upcoming events, identifying issues, and actively working to resolve them; and, providing direct mission support for daily execution Command responses to crisis, emerging contingencies, foreign consequence management, counter-terrorism, and personnel recovery operations throughout the command area of responsibility (AOR).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).

Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for which both education and experience are acceptable.

Additional information

  • Direct deposit of pay is required.
  • U.S. citizens overseas under ordinarily resident status are not eligible for appointment under the Status of Forces Agreement.
  • Locality pay does not apply in the overseas area.
  • If an employee brings a child to an overseas location and that child is entitled to attend a DoD school on a space-required basis in accordance with DoDEA Regulation 1342.13, the DoDEA and the Military Department responsible for providing related services will ensure that the child, if eligible for special education, receives a free appropriate public education, including related services pursuant to DoDI 1342.12 and DoDM 1342.12.
  • If an employee brings an infant or toddler (up to 3 years of age) to an overseas location, and that infant or toddler, but for the child's age, is entitled to attend the DoDEA on a space-required basis in accordance with DoDEA Regulation 1342.13, then the Military Department responsible for EIS will provide the infant or toddler with the required EIS in accordance with the eligibility criteria consistent with DoDI 1342.12 and DoDM 1342.12.
  • Employees (and family members) who require medical or dental care in the overseas location will be responsible for obtaining and paying for such care. Access for civilian employees and their families to military medical and dental treatment facilities is on a space-available and reimbursable basis only. Medical services for civilian employees in Vicenza are provided by Italian clinics, medical specialists, and hospitals and is on a cash basis for most cases.
  • Pay retention may be offered to selected applicants for positions at overseas locations. Pay retention will not be offered as an incentive for employees moving between overseas positions.
