Duties

Help

As a Public Affairs Specialist you will:

-Support higher level public affairs specialists in the planning, development, writing, editing, design and dissemination of both external and internal communication products to audiences via print, broadcast and digital media. Develop content for internal and external communications channels, including an employee blog; newsletter; authorized social media sites; a public website, an intranet site; and external/internal email updates.

-Prepare posts for social media and internal platforms, scripts, audio files, visual materials and publications pertaining to the OIG’s activities. Capture still photographs and video to be used in government products. Conduct research and information collection, respond to inquiries received via social media and other channels, and perform a variety of digital communication tasks.

-Collect data from reference sources and incorporate them into digital material. Coordinate with subject matter experts to improve web content quality and its usefulness to stakeholders. Verify and arrange information in accordance with the general nature of the material and purpose of presentation. Contribute to data visualization projects.

-Use several types of office automation tools, such as word processing, graphics software, spreadsheets, content management systems, and database management to compile and manipulate information into various formats. Apply knowledge of various software functions to contribute to reports used by senior staff.

-Perform other duties as assigned.

You must meet time in grade requirements no later than 30 calendar days after the closing date of this announcement.

This position is designated as High Risk and requires a background investigation. Unless an appropriate background investigation is already on record with the Office of Personnel Management, you must undergo a background investigation.

Qualifications

GS-07 LEVEL REQUIREMENTS:

You must meet one of the following:

One (1) full year of graduate level education.

-OR-

Bachelor's Degree with Superior academic achievement (S.A.A.) based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership.

    1. Class standing -- Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses.

    2. Grade-point average (G.P.A.)-- Applicants must have a grade-point average of:

      1. 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or

      2. 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum.

                          3.  Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society.

Your education must be related to the major duties and the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

We are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:

To qualify for the GS-07 level, you need to have at least one year of full time specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the federal sector. The work experience described in your resume must clearly reflect that you have performed work that meets the specialized experience requirement for this position, as defined below, or your application will be rated "Ineligible."  Specialized experience for this position at the GS-7 level is defined as:

Experience in written and oral communication principles, techniques, and methods; analytical methods; and interpersonal relations practices in digital communications (i.e., multimedia production, social media responsibility, web content coordination, and/or system management). Or, experience in using a variety of formats to gather and report public reaction to OIG activities and convey information in graphic and narrative forms. Or, experience with various photography and layout techniques and tools to gather and analyze data to perform technical graphic design work. Or, experience with Microsoft Word, Adobe PhotoShop, Adobe Dreamweaver, HTML, Web Content Management Systems (WordPress or similar) and image-editing.

GS-09 LEVEL REQUIREMENTS:

You must meet one of the following:

A Master's or equivalent graduate degree.

-OR-

Two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education, if related.

-OR-

A law degree such as an LL.B. or J.D., if related.

Your education must be related to the major duties and the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

-OR-

We are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:

To qualify for the GS-09 level, you need to have at least one year of full time specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the federal sector. The work experience described in your resume must clearly reflect that you have performed work that meets the specialized experience requirement for this position, as defined below, or your application will be rated "Ineligible."  Specialized experience for this position at the GS-9 level is defined as:

Experience in written and oral communication principles, techniques, and methods; analytical methods; and interpersonal relations practices in digital communications (i.e., multimedia production, social media responsibility, web content coordination, and/or system management).
