Summary

This position is located in the Office of Admissions, United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA), Maritime Administration (MARAD). You will serve as an Admission Assistant to the Director of Admissions and the Admissions Office. He/She is responsible for  performing all computer-related duties essential to the processing and evaluation of prospective candidates by maintaining and updating Admissions System hardware and software.

Duties

Help

As an Admission Assistant (Office Automation), you will:

  • Manage official correspondence operations
  • Maintain day-to-day computer functions and delegates computer assignments to support staff.
  • Prepare computer reports on an as-needed basis.
  • Be responsible for quality control of data for accuracy and completeness.
  • Process and maintain applications and digital files by inputting and updating information into applicant database.
  • Serve as principal liaison for Department of Defense Medical Examination Board (DoDMERB) actions.
  • Serves as principal liaison for academy prep school program.

IDEAL CANDIDATE: This position is ideal for a highly motivated, experienced professional who has the knowledge and, skill and ability to perform all computer-related duties essential to the processing and evaluation of prospective candidates.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Qualifications

To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the specialized experience qualifications for the grade at which you are requesting consideration.

To qualify for the GS-06 on Experience, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equal or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the following:

  • Experience of Admissions procedures and requirements, including deadlines, evaluation processes, medical and test requirements, etc.
  • Experience to deal effectively with all levels of the congressional staff personnel, applicants, parents, school officials, etc.
  • Experience using personal computer operations and software programs.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).  Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
