Duties

Help

As an Editor for the DOE OIG, the incumbent's primary responsibilities will be to assist the Director of the Office of Planning, Administration, and Quality Assurance with recommending standards, practices, procedures, and other criteria for the timely issuance of audit/inspection reports; review audit/inspection reports for editorial style and consistency with the established format of the Audits/Inspections Manual and the requirements of the Comptroller General's Government Auditing Standards; review draft reports to ensure the objective has been addressed, facts presented are clear and logical, and all elements of the report are included; prepare a variety presentations, charts, and visual aids for use in meetings and briefings; and utilize various desktop software to draft, edit, and design materials for printing.

You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement.  Time-in-grade restrictions must also be met by the closing date of this announcement.

Applicants must have at least 52 weeks of service equivalent to the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position.

Appointment to this position may be subject to successful completion of a 1-year probationary period.

Upon reporting, and on an annual basis thereafter, you will be required to file a financial statement and/or a procurement integrity certification.  These certifications may be subject to public disclosure.

This position requires a security clearance and is subject to drug testing.  The selectee must test negative prior to being appointed to this position and will be subject to random testing thereafter.  Failure to pass subsequent tests could result in disciplinary action, up to and including removal from the Federal service.


 

 

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service.  Specialized experience is paid or unpaid experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position being filled.

In addition to the basic eligibility requirements, applicants must have the following specialized experience and/or directly related education or a combination:

At the GS-7 applicants must have one (1) year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement or one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 level.  Specialized experience includes but is not limited to researching, writing, and editing reports, letters, memos, and other documents; using software applications for correspondences; and effectively communicating orally and in writing.

At the GS-9 applicants must have two (2) years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master’s degree or equivalent graduate degree or one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 level. Specialized experience for this position may include, but is not limited to: editing and formatting reports for publication; assisting with the agency report issuance process; and preparing a variety of presentations, charts, and visual aids for use in meetings and briefings.

The successful candidate for this position will possess the following KSAs/competencies:(Applicants need not prepare written responses to these KSAs, unless asked in the online application.)

1. Knowledge of desktop software to draft, edit, and layout material.

2.  Skill in editing and formatting published reports.

3.  Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.

4.  Ability to develop curriculum material and conduct writing skill training to all grade level personnel.

5.  Ability to effectively communicate orally.

6. Ability to communicate in writing.
