Duties

Help

The incumbent assists the Inspector General, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and Senior Counsel(s) in conducting strategic outreach to Congress on the oversight work conducted in the Office of the Inspector General, Department of Justice (DOJ). In addition, the duties of the position encompass working to enhance the overall management and operations of the Immediate Office and the OIG through, among other things, planning, innovation, and process development. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparing OIG leadership for congressional hearings by drafting IG testimony and oral statements, and briefing relevant issues to the DIG and IG based on communications with congressional staff.
  • Serving as one of the Immediate Office's liaison with the CIGIE Legislative Committee; in such capacity, coordinating with other Immediate Office personnel (CIGIE liaison Counsel and Congressional Liaison Counsel) on attending committee meetings, and assuming responsibility for developing the OIG's position on issues raised, and briefing OIG leadership on such issues.
  • Researching, analyzing, and developing information on congressional activities and legislative actions of importance to the OIG. Using knowledge of the executive and legislative decision-making processes to skillfully interact with congressional experts and decision-makers in OIG-related matters.
  • Enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of Immediate Office and OIG operations, including in connection with the semiannual report, open recommendations report, top management and performances challenges report, and other OIG statutory reporting requirements.
  • Working with Immediate Office counsel and the Management and Planning Division to develop the OIG's draft annual budget submission based on discussions with OIG leadership.
  • Assisting the IG and Deputy IG in assigning and tracking draft OIG reports transmitted to the Immediate Office for review and approval, including preliminary review of such draft reports.
  • Providing technical direction and guidance to lower level Immediate Office staff members on tasks relevant to these duties.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progresses

Qualifications

Specialized experience is paid or unpaid experience that has equipped the applicant with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position). To qualify at the GS-13 level, your resume must display that you have at least 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level analyzing complex congressional matters associated with the planning, coordination, and implementation of programs and activities; independently planning and carrying out a wide variety of congressional matters associated with the planning and execution of major activities within an agency, and coordinating agency views on legislation or comments on congressional matters.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade level (or equivalent).
