Summary

THIS IS A DIRECT HIRE ANNOUNCEMENT. Section 1125 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2017 authorizes the Secretary of Defense to recruit and appoint qualified candidates directly to positions in the competitive service at any domestic Defense Industrial Base Facility or Major Range and Test Facilities Base.

This position will require 22-26 weeks of 'off-yard training' in Norfolk, VA. A 'Continued Service Agreement' for the off-yard training is required to be signed.

  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Minimum qualification requirements are as follows:

For the GS-4 position:
Your resume must demonstrate at least 6 months general experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-03) level or pay band, and 6 months specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-03) level or pay band in the Federal, private or public sector. Specialized experience must demontrate: performing basic standardized checks utilizing manual or automated systems to ensure results of analysis or documented procedures performed are correctly recorded in accordance with standardized procedures and operations.

For the GS-5 position:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-04), level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: conducting radiation control surveillance of activities, personnel or materials to ensure radiological control inspection requirements are appropriately recorded, maintained and met.

Education may be substituted for experience as follows:

For the GS-4:
Successful completion of 2 years of education above the high school level that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of courses such as physical science, engineering, or any branch of mathematics, except financial and commercial mathematics.

NEC N91T (Legacy NEC 9901) indicates a NNPP Candidate that was recruited for the NNPP Program.

For the GS-5:
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study above the high school level leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with a major study in an appropriate field of physical science, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as physical science, engineering, or any branch of mathematics, except financial and commercial mathematics.

NEC N91T (Legacy NEC 9901) indicates a NNPP Candidate that was recruited for the NNPP Program.
