Duties

Help

As a Sexual Assault Prevention/Response Coordinator, you will:

  • Research, develop, plan, and conduct Sexual Assault Prevention/Response education and training for supervisors, managers, employees and midshipmen to include prevention of sexual assault, sexual harassment and discrimination. Provide continual training and technical assistance. Establish information and training to ensure understanding of the reporting procedures, confidentiality and other elements of USMMA’s sexual assault, harassment and discrimination policies.
  • Serve to influence local and national policies as a subject matter expert to the Departmental & MARAD Civil Rights leadership in the areas of discrimination, sexual assault, and harassment prevention. Act as the principal advisor to the Superintendent and other senior leadership on sexual assault, sexual harassment and discrimination. Advice ranges from resolution of complex sexual assault or harassment problems to all aspects of developing SAPRO policy.
  • Have a key role in increasing the awareness and prevention of sexual harassment and assault, including training for victim advocates and Midshipman Human Relations Officers. Process formal sexual assault cases in order to expedite proper handling and resolution. The paramount duty for the employee is to raise the social consciousness and awareness of the needs and rights of victims of sexual assault and harassment, and the professional presence of mind to alert the local, USMMA, and national community to preventive measures and supportive policy.
  • Supervise Prevention Educators in researching, developing, planning, and conducting SAPRO education and training for supervisors, managers, employees, and midshipmen to include prevention of sexual assault, sexual harassment and discrimination. Exercise supervisory personnel management authority over Prevention Educators.

Highly Desirable: You should have relevant experience in a regimental setting at a maritime and/or other military/service Academy as well as experience working in a Higher Education environment that emphasizes the commitment of the institution to maintain a living, learning and working environment that rejects sexual harassment and assault and attitudes that promote such behaviors.


The ideal candidate is a highly motivated middle to senior level professional possessing integrity, stamina, and ingenuity, and capable of adjusting to various work environments, physical demands, and schedules. The individual must be customer service oriented, with unique skills to coordinate with internal and external stakeholders and provide program direction and guidance to all concerning reporting procedures, confidentiality, training, safety tips and resources, preferably on a college/university campus or military service academy.

The person selected for this position will be required to reside on the Academy grounds in assigned Quarters based on availability and pay monthly Quarter’s rental fees.

Qualifications

To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must meet the specialized experience requirements.

For the GS-13, to qualify on Experience, you must have one year of specialized experience equal or equivalent to the GS-12, it must include:

  • Experience providing policy, guidance and other information concerning sexual harassment and assault prevention to senior level executives, management and staff, while providing continual supervision, training and technical assistance.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).  Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
