This is a Complexity Level I facility with a National Polytrauma Rehabilitation Center (PRC), Amputation Regional Center (ARC), Polytrauma Transitional Rehabilitation (PTRP) Program, Polytrauma Network Site (PNS), Comprehensive Pain Center (CPC), Visual Impairment Services Outpatient Rehabilitation (VISOR) Program and Center for Integrative Health and Healing (CIHH) in addition to multiple medical provider clinics and services including Physiatry, Nursing, Social Work, Psychology, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Language Pathology and Integrative Medicine. S/he will serve as a mid-level administrator providing direct supervision to the outpatient medical support assistant staff.

Supervisory MSAs plan and direct programs at medical centers and/or satellite outpatient clinics and have full supervisory responsibility. Assignments at this level include, but are not limited to: assigning and evaluating the work of subordinate staff; resolving complex problems to ensure patient services are met; evaluating new products, equipment, and systems in order to make recommendations for improved operations; identifying educational or training needs; making final decisions on selections; evaluating performance, and taking disciplinary action when necessary. The incumbent has full administrative and professional responsibility for planning and directing the medical support assistant's activities. S/he is responsible for extracting and analyzing data in order to provide reports in support of performance measures to senior management. For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher level duties must consist of significant scope, administrative independence, complexity (difficulty) and range of variety as described in this standard at the specified grade level and be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time.

Additional duties and responsibilities are consistent with usual operations. The incumbent may serve on assigned committees, work groups and other efforts to meet standards of care as identified by CARP and/or Joint Commission on Accreditation.

Ability to provide the full range of administrative and supervisory duties which includes assignment of work, performance evaluations, selection of staff, and recommendation of awards and/or advancements.

Work Schedule: Full time Day Shift Monday - Friday from 0730 - 1600

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

Experience. Six months experience of clerical, office or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position; OR, Education. One year above high school; OR, Experience/Education Combination. Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable.

English Language Proficiency. MSAs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Chapter 3, Section A, Paragraph 3j.Grade Determinations:

GS-7 Supervisory MSA

Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. Candidates must demonstrate the KSAs below:

1. Ability to provide the full range of administrative and supervisory duties which includes assignment of work, performance evaluations, selection of staff, and recommendation of awards and/or advancements.

2. Ability to collaborate, communicate, and demonstrate customer service and interpersonal skills with all healthcare professionals to ensure quality/continuity of care and ensure compliance with established policies and regulations.

3. Ability to provide briefings, orientations, staff development and training.

4. Ability to delegate authority, evaluate and oversee people and programs, accomplish program goals, and adapt to changing priorities.

Physical Requirements: Eligible applicants must be physically and mentally able to perform efficiently the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, without hazard to themselves or others. The work of a Medical Support Assistant is primarily sedentary, however, there may be some walking and standing (less than one hour), bending and transporting items under 20 pounds. Works extensively in the hospital computer system. This position requires some exposure to blood borne pathogens, body fluids and other potentially infectious materials.
