• Extract or work with patients' body fluids or tissues; prepare patients' specimens for examination, perform specialized tests on body fluids or tissue samples, or confirm patients' test results.
• Sign out cases and teach residents during morning lectures. Provide expert lectures to medical students, residents, fellows, and practitioners about pathology; speak at scientific meetings on a national and international level.
• Provide consultation to other pathologists and diagnoses consultations. Participate in Tumor Boards.
• Responsible for consultation, education and research in support of the organizational goals in the study of pathology. Prepare scientific papers and reports for publication of research findings.
• Considerable weight is given to the Physician's recommendations in their technical specialty on cases that are often critical and complicated.

Conditions of employment

• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
• This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.

• This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
• This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.

Basic Requirement for the Physician (Pathology) position:

Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic Colleges Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association; or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was earned. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts with your application package.)

OR

A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school, provided that the education and medical knowledge is equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed pre-medical education in the United States and graduate education in foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts and proof of foreign equivalency with your application package.)

Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Graduate Training:

• Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training.
• Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, applicants must have 5 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled (Pathology) or equivalent experience and training.
• Fellowship in GYN is preferred.
