Summary

This position is located in the Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations, Program Development, Coordination and Support Directorate, Office of Design and Engineering, Interior Design Division (OBO/PDCS/DE/ID). The Division provides comprehensive interior design services to include programming, space planning, architectural finish specification and furniture for U.S. Diplomatic Missions worldwide.

Duties

Help
  • Provides comprehensive interior design services to include space programming, space planning, finish specification, furniture specification and design details; Develops graphic presentations for communicating internally and externally.
  • Coordinates with technical disciplines to include MEP Engineers, Security, Telecom, Fire/Life Safety Engineers, Construction Engineers, specialized consultants and A/E contractors.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert on OBO Design Standards, International Building Code and Architectural Barriers Act Accessibility Standards; Evaluates leased facility suitability through on site assessment and test fits.
  • Researches interior products, finish materials, emerging trends and practices; Develops and maintains technical documents to include scopes of work, budgets, schedules and narratives.
  • Establishes and coordinates requirements with U.S. Mission personnel, tenant agencies and DOS Bureaus.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all the required qualification requirements, including education and any selective placement factors described below by the closing date of this announcement.

If you are qualifying based on education OR if there are mandatory education requirements listed below, you MUST submit a copy of your college transcript with your application.

Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level in the Federal service which provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position.  

Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 

  • Experience providing authoritative advice on the planning, design and execution of a complex commercial facility;
  • Experience monitoring and evaluating the work of architectural/engineering firms to ensure compliance with regulations and Design Standards;
  • Experience technically writing scopes of work, narratives, trip reports and position papers;
  • Experience utilizing design industry tools and software, to include BIM and digital publishing software.

There is no substitute of education for specialized experience for the GS-14 position.

2. Ability to plan and manage interior design and space planning for a complex commercial facility.
3. Skill in developing designs and unique solutions that enhance representational characteristics of U.S. Diplomatic Missions.
