Duties

Help


Removes trash to a central pick-up area, relines trash receptacles, cleans and disinfects ash and trash receptacles. Loads soiled linen bags into linen cart. Transports recyclable material such as cardboard to designated locations. Properly handles and disposes of all waste including general trash, regulated medical(infectious) waste, chemotherapy waste and hazardous waste (mercury spills). Assists in clean linen distribution and linen inventories. Dust mops, wet mops, buffs, spray buffs, scrubs, strip and refinish floors. Vacuums, shampoos and extracts carpets. Vacuums and shampoos fabric furniture. Dusts, washes and polishes wood, metal and vinyl furniture in lobbies, day rooms, dining rooms, conference rooms, patient rooms, offices, chapels, etc. Dusts and washes walls, partitions, doors, windows, elevators, stairwells and handrails. Dusts and cleans ceiling and wall vents, pictures, windowsills, mirrors, over-bed lights, light diffusers, other fixtures and all horizontal surfaces. Cleans and disinfects toilets, urinals, sinks, showers and fixtures. On occasion may be called upon to clean the inside of vehicles such as ambulances. Refills toilet tissue, paper towel and soap dispensers. Changes out sharps disposal units as needed. Cleans building entrances including exterior stairwells.Changes linens and makes up beds, washes and disinfects mattresses and beds, bedside stands and wardrobes in Hoptel, MOD, and POD suites, CLC,Medical/Surgical, ICU, Domiciliary Units and Urgent Care. Properly hangs drapes, cubicle curtains and shower curtains, removes curtains, drapes for laundering or replacement as needed, moves furniture, supplies and equipment. Maintains adequate supply levels and properly stores and safeguards all supplies and equipment. Uses chemical solutions in proper dilutions. Follows all applicable safety rules and regulations. Maintains housekeeping aid closets and equipment in a clean and orderly manner. Removes snow from building entrances and steps. May be required to carry a Vocera to respond to emergent needs. Incumbent may be involved with the use, cleaning, reprocessing of reusable medical equipment (RME) and is responsible for knowing what reusable equipment, medical devices or supplies are used in his/her area.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The work demands a full range of physical activities including standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching and climbing. Frequently lifts or moves objects up to 50 pounds and occasionally objects over 50 pounds. Must be able to control heavy-duty cleaning equipment such as buffers and scrubbers. May occasionally work from ladders or scaffolds to accomplish cleaning tasks. May occasionally move linen carts weighing in excess of 500 pounds.

Organizes and reiterates thoughts and ideas in understandable terminology. Understands, remembers and applies oral and/or written instructions or other information. Expresses or exchanges ideas by means of spoken word, communicating orally with others accurately and effectively. Communicates with others utilizing a telephone, radio, Vocera, or other means of communication that requires ability to hear and speak effectively. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide and to record and/or check results for accuracy. Computes, analyzes, and interprets numerical data for reporting

Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
